Hello Surreptitious marine lovers ,

I know you all have been clamoring to see my latest tank, an Xmas present from my wife.

A 34L Nano Marine Ocean Free tank with inbuilt sump, mini protein skimmer. It pumps 440L/hr using a Aqua One pump and for the winter I have a 25w Aqua One heater which I might upgrade if it can't handle the heat.

Currently I do not have a chiller running but next summer I will need to get one as I will have a bigger bio load in the tank.

The Tank:
I am loving how the setup is so neat and clean

Filled up, with first pieces of live rock:
I started very slow, and only added a bit of rock
post-7085-0-94289300-1393319902.jpg

7 weeks later:
At about 4weeks I bought a clean up crew (3 snails and a short spined sea-urchin)

Coral Close-Up:
I also added coral after 4 weeks of cycling. Interestingly I never knew that all the coral is loose and you kind of balance it on the rocks.
I plan to stock up on coral as I want the tank to be covered in it. I also need to get a XL Sea Anemone for the Clownfish.

Shrimp:
Here is the first member of the tank. I also plan to get 2x Clownfish, 1x Humbug Damsel, 1x Goby (or a sand sifter) and maybe another shrimp or two.

All the fish will be super small and I will have to do regular WC depending on the bio-load.

So there you go.
More photos to come, but I will collect a few first, like I did with this post.

Regards,
MrLeifBeaver

Looks Fantastic!!

I like the scape. You've done an amazing job. Those shrimp are super cool. Just be careful if you are going to get 4 fish in a tank that size because of the bio-load and aggression. Damsels are aggressive fish and so are clowns. Just keep an eye on them but I'm sure it'll all be alright.

Regards,

Ben

Clowns will get their biff on and most likely flog the damsel... Maybe not but thats my bet.

Cool little tank though Leif. Nice work.

Thank you all for the kind comments.

Yes, I agree, I probably wont get the humbug then if there are going to be fights. The tank is too small for territories so I just wont have one.

My wife purchased the tank, an Ocean-Free Nano 3 tank from Aquotix in Canningvale.

Be aware, Marine is certainly not cheap, with what I have spent I could have had a lovely freshwater tank and cabinet for about the same price ^_^ .

Tank was approx.   - $240 dollars.

Argonite sand        - $20

Live Rock (3.5kg)  - $50

Corals                    - $90

Shrimp                   - $50

Cleanup Crew        - $25

So about $475 so far. Oooo I shouldn't have done that

Still looking pretty sparse, I guess I have another $200+ worth to fill it with too....

Would look awesome if you put some montipora or acropora down the bottom right IMO. Also torch corals are great for newish setups. Be careful with Acropora and Montipora corals though, they need to be in a place with lots of flow if you get some.

Hmm, they look cool. I gotta get one that fits my tank.

Hehe, it's taken me a while to get to this stage. I am sure it will look different again as I add more coral (you need to kind of balance it on your rocks)

In regards to the skimmer, there are 3 areas in the back sump. The right handside is the Skimmer only, the water is sucked in at the both the top and bottom. The water then travels into the Middle (at the bottom) has a little insertable box that has filters and some media in it, then the water flows over the top to the left side, where a pump (at the bottom) pumps the into the tank, the left also ahs space for the heater.

Hello Guys,

So a week ago I did a big tank clean on my nano, as I didn't feel it was running as well as it should.

The nano has been a real pleasure to keep. Fish are healthy and I haven't had much problems with the corals.

I had one snail die (easter time) but otherwise it has all been very healthy. My Blue tipped Anemone even split into two! So now each Clown has an anemone to host.

Here are photos of its current configuration. Enjoy.

Regards,

MrLeif

This last photo was from a little while ago, I sold the corals back to the shop. They didn't fit in the tank easily after i re-configured it.

Haha. *blush*...

Thank you Red for your kind words, I will deem myself good at Saltwater fish keeping if I can keep them all alive over summer.

MLB, I like it :) Yes i would hope to. Whats brilliant is that the clownfish change sex if there are no females, the bigger one turns. But they need to gorw about 1 inch bigger before they do that.
