Hi everyone, my friend asked me this question but im not sure what the answer is :?

"I am making a waterfeature for my garden (just a pot with waterlillies) and the garden man said that i need tp put native goldfish in the pot. This keeps the mossies down and apparently native golfish dont eat the plants as much and dont eat frog eggs.

Where abouts can i find native goldfish?"

Thanks - hope you guys can help biggrin.gif

Hi Plec
I don't know who "the garden man" is but there are no native goldfish, he was probably refering to Edelia vittata commonly known as the Western Pygmy Perch. These little fish will keep the mozzies down in your pond. Frog Watch recomend them as tadpole friendly and claim that they don't eat tadpoles. This is incorrect, Pygmy Perch will eat any live food that will fit in their mouth, fortunately the tadpoles grow fast and most get too big for the fish to eat.
Most of our sponsors have them or can get them for you.
Cheers Terry

Rainbow fish and Galaxians will do the same job also (a.k.a. pencil fish).
