Looking bloody awesome Scott, great job mate!

Sam - love the idea behind the artificial substrate but to some extent wouldn't the benefit of not having substrate allowing crap to build up be equal to the loss of the large amount of bacteria that would normally exist and inhabit the substrate and unable to populate in the artificial one? Obviously you could get away with it no dramas and done right could look stunning but the small and infrequent issue of a bit of crap clean up here and there is not that bad when you think of the benefits the substrate can provide to the tank... Am I crazy in thinking this?

I run bare bottom in the system I have in my shed. Just short of 3000Ltr. I have no health issues with my fish. But on the other hand I have a very large sump with alot of biological media.

In my opinion substrate just collects crap. If you have a good filter there will be no issue.

Saying that I like the look of both and have just setup a 4x2x2.5 in my loungeroom with substrate. But for all my big fish, bass, rays etc I will always run bare bottom. Much easy when it comes to water change time. Drain/refill/rinse mechanical filter. Takes 15 minutes max. I do two 450Ltr changes a week. So roughly a third water volume a week.

Chalceus look nice. Have always been a fan of them.

But IMO I think it is only a matter of time before the Jardini makes mince meat out of them. They aren't the staunchest fish in the world, and they occupy the same level of the aquarium as the Jardini. It may work for a while, but I have strong doubts.

Tank looks mint mate, well done.

A big semi planted tank with 20 chalceus would look amazing.

A big school of pink tailed chalceus, tinfoil barbs (albino and normal), tarpon, 'yellow-fin' tin foils, red hooked silver dollars and cigar sharks is something I've always wanted to do. It'd look bling.

Man that driftwood looks mint! Where did that come from?
Be cool with some other aussie TBs but sounds like you got a physco jar laugh.gif
Few big red scats & archers would set it off!

The drift wood is from a chain store with a big orange shop front , yeah it would be good to have some tank mates but I'm not so convinced it would work .... It just wants to kill everything . I have some native tandanus cats in there and a couple of Gibbis .
