#296945 An Abbott Idea

Posted by malawiman85 on 08 October 2013 - 06:21 AM

People on the dole dont have the skills that we are short of. People long term on the dole should be cut off with no assistance.
Maybe dole entitlements should accrue prorata so if you work for a year you earn the right to access a month/however long of dole payments.
When i moved to WA from over east in 2006 i had $1000 and a suitcase full of clothes and a toolbelt. I got a job after two days, stayed at a backpackers for 6 weeks until i could sort out somewhere to rent. I paid to do some training courses ended up in mining. I hated it but stuck it out for the experience and money. Now im paying my own way through a masters degree at uni and own my own house. Im not saying im a superstar. Im saying im motivated and prepared to help myself not rely on handouts like so many seem to be happy to do.

Thats funny!
My wife is always getting my hopes up, threatening to leave... She even did leave once... do yourself a favour, go to the classifieds and buy every tank for sale and keep as many fish as you can.

I've been wanting to do a small pond with a glass front for ages... The biggest problem I had was working out where I wanted it... I wanted it to be somewhere I could see it all the time... I kept drawing blanks, but then just as I was starting to lose  hope my massive brain constructed what is probably the greatest idea in fish keeping history.

When I explained it to my wife she threatened to leave me... Hoping she was serious and this wasnt just another idle threat, I went and built it anyway... Enough from me... Just check it out, its not finished yet but it is up and running:

So I bought this tank 1600ltr (Some of you probably recognise it).

Then I started building out of materials I had on hand... Mostly limestone, sand and cement.

By this stage the wife still hadnt left so I kept on going. Moving the tank on my own was unbelievably difficult!

I used existing holes in the tank to set up the filter/pump.

The water is still a little cloudy and I havent cleaned the glass yet but already it looks great! So far I have only chucked my marron in, no fish yet. Cant wait to get this tank scaped and full of fish.

Fish that will be going in are:

- A Murray Cod - until it turns into a monsterous killer.

- A few silver perch

- Eeltail catfish

- Lots of shrimp

Best thing is I can literally feed the fish and top up water from my couch.

All up I have only spent $550.

#295628 Is Playsand From Bunnings Safe To Use In An Aquarium?

Posted by malawiman85 on 18 September 2013 - 07:31 PM

Safe yes but doesnt look as good as river sand. I reckon the playsand is a bit fine tends to get stirred up easy and takes a while for the water to clear up. But for the price its hard to go past.

Yep Bowdy is right about malawis. Easy as that just cycle your tank and go for it... i recommend male only for displays, means no hybrid fry and limits aggression. There are some species that get quite aggressive. Good thing about malawis though is their typical behavioural traits are well documented so with a little bit of research you shouldnt have too many surprises.
Tangs are more individual some as Bowdy pointed out are quite fussy. I would have to say that tangs, whilst not as "pretty", are far more interesting.

Because she knows a thing or two about business and the economy.

Really???

I thought she inherited a bucket load of money and resources in an industry, that fortunately for her  (and me to a far lesser extent) has boomed!

She is one of the worlds ultimate 'tards... Right up there with Dan Quayle and Eve (of Adam and Eve fame).

As bad as it is to hear this kinda stuff i appreciate the heads up. I have four kids under 3 and would happily tear the throat out of anyone that does this kinda shit. So good on you Bickley.
Should send him for a swim with a bunch of hungry testicle chewing pacu.

Also i personally wouldnt consider mixing africans with americans... To each there own some folkes manage it with some success long term though i would expect the americans to beat up most africans
