Ok my two fish i had in my marine tank just died this week  which im most upset about as my eel i had for 10 years and Barra Cod for 4, anyway it leaves mre with a spare 8x3x2.5 with a 7x2x2 sump underneith.
Heres my list any feedback on dos and donts would be appreciated greatly as ive never kept any of these longterm

2x silver aros - Black if i can get
6x Red hooks
20x pictus cats
2x motoros - tigers if i can get
2x L027 Royal pleco
6x earth eaters - need some advice on which ones
2x L025 Scarlet plecos
2x L014 sunshine plecos
I would love a tigrinnus aswell but im not sure on these with other fish

I want to plant it with big osiris swords, melon swords tiger lotus vallis and Bannana plants, fairly sparse thought so only a few of each i also want heaps of bid drift wood in there and maybe some silk Reptile plants wrapped around them floating or something.

in 3 foot of the sump i want to heavily plant with something like hornwort or vallis or another plant that takes up nirates fairly fast and is hardy and i plan on doing around 25% water change weekly anyway but hey

sound ok so far, i guess i want some other fish in there aswell but at the moment im stuck, id like to keep the amazon feel going but im open to suggestions, maybe a Qld lungfish???

Sounds awesome biggrin.gif wow 20 pictus catfish, that may be a bit much... maybe 10? laugh.gif I love the plecos you've listed, theyll be great. Maybe some red bellied pacus? Flagtail Prochilodus? Scats, monos or archers? Clown knifefish or black ghost knifefish?
Sounds like a great setup if you can get it all happening!

hmm craig you make a good point, with both prochilodus and knives, i might go for the 10 pictus and add one of each.
both had skipped my mind till now - cheers
red bellies i was thinking of but i think the load on my system would be to high

hey Steve stay away from the pacus as they will eat your plants as for the tigrinus it may eat your earth eaters if they are small enough to fit in its mouth
i think you need to start with the smaller species and let them grow a bit
before adding the arows and tigrinus not sure how you go with the scarlet pleco and the rays as i heard the scarlet can latch on to things that don't move much but its worth a try but think in a year or so you will only have the arows and tigrinus and rays as the rest maybe eaten

yeah just read up on a few things.
Scarlets are out so i might try something else like 333 or gold nuggets if i can get em
pacus are out in fact disc characen all together, unless i choose fake plants over real, though id prefer real 10 fold.
and trhe earth eaters, im sure theres more out there, though i like heckelli (spelling?), threadfins.
blacks in oz are as rare as hens teeth and they price upo like the asians i belive, ive never seen one in the flesh or even had a price on one but assume they would go for $2000 +
bigger tank simon, that takes me back to the aqua jetty idea laugh.gif

Steve plecos latch onto other fish when they are starving, so they can consume the fishes slime coating. Basically if there is no algea growing in ur tank the plecos will turn to the motoros most likely. I havnt tried to see if its possible to prevent this simply by feeding them algea wafers to substitute natural algea. also large plecos have a tendancy to eat plants while sucking on their leaves.

arros dont always get along, especially when they get big. When people want to breed them they often try putting six in one tank and then the ones that dont like each other get killed and then you end up with one maybe two pairs. or you can just try ur luck.

Steve,

Some people get away with the pleco ray combination others end in disaster it is a combo that I would seriously keep a close eye on. I'd also scrap the pictus. Motoro rays in the long run get VERY large, easily large enough to munch down pictus cats. If you like the look of them, I'd go P. ornatus similar look just a bit larger.

I'm sure you are well aware of arowana community dynamics, which is just another thing to consider. I've had luck with keeping just the two specimens together. But can not always be done.

Let us know what you end up doing.

I'm actually stocking my 8x3x2.5 as well. Good fun... hurts the bank though!

Alex
