Hi, I have a pair of Red Tapajos (and Leucostictus in a 6 x 2 x 2 tank) that have spawned and were holding them for the last ten days. On advice I separated the female and stripped her of the fry - thinking that they would likely be eaten by the other fish. Does stripping a fish stress it out and will they reproduce in future? I would rather they did the rearing of their own volition. However I now have approximately 120 fry in a 2 foot and am not sure how to get the best out of these fish regarding feeding. I have started a brineshrimp hatchery may be this might help raise them. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes the act of stripping can be stressful for the fish, it really depends on the fish and the experience and technique of the person. It does not, in my experience, stop the fish from spawning in the future. All the fish I have stripped have spawned again and again. Keep in mind that most cichlids will not actually rear their fry - I have let some of my fish spit naturally in their tanks and all fry get eaten.

Feeding: I use New Life Spectrum Grow for all my fry, even the tiny tiny shell dweller fry.
If you are feeding brineshrimp make sure they are decapsulated, otherwise you may harm your fish.
