I dont think Ive seen 500s around for a while... Wont need it for a few months now though.

I know what you are saying about the likelihood of cross contamination I just cant think of any equipment I would use on both tanks. one tank is 160L the other is 1600. Totally different size nets and syphons... Might have hitched a ride on my arm perhaps though Im pretty careful to wash my arms before sticking them in another tank... Only possible explanation I suppose.

White spot is gone! I thought my cod was a goner once i saw him in the corner motionless for about 5 or 6 hours! But he seems to have come good.
It took me a few days to begin effective treatment and im kicking myself for it but catching them was a pretty big operation.
I treated with:
- formalin/malachite green product by Aquamaster called Rapid white spot remidy and,
- trisulphur by blue planet
- heat (31 degrees) and air
- salt at 6ppt.
There has been no sign of ich for 3 days but i am continuing treatment for another 3 days.
I hope the absolute absolute barrage of treatment hasnt had to much of an ill effect on the fish... whatever its beter than dying as a result of ich.

quite possible your fish in either setup have been exposed to whitespot before and are carriers and something brought on a little stress and bingo out comes white spot :(

Johnno yeah possibly. I thought maybe the tap water might have been a bit harsh perhaps. High chlorine levels maybe.

There is a relatively new heater out called Shogun by ocean free that has a couple of new features ( large digital read out, auto shut off when the top is exposed to air ). The largest size is a 500 watter, i've  been using the 300 watter for the last 6 months and so far so good, Aquotics, Vebas have them cheers Steve

Have taken big fish out. My cod used a couple perch as chew toys... Was only a matter of time before he realised he is a predator. Gave the other silvers away, they were kinda boring and were very easily startled.... they would freak out at their own reflection! Got some giant tadpoles in there being fruitlessly pursued by hungry marron. Thinking about a big heap of rainbows now. Gotta try and dig out the rather reclusive tandanus somehow.
Got the cod in his own 6 footer at the moment.
Would love to put a couple juvi red eared sliders in the pond if i could.

Is this still running, do you still have it? Awesome tank, although I'm 2 years late.
