An excellent point Fuggers. You can tell your mate how great his fish look, say how great his wife looks and things dont end so well.

It's not as much fun using a bag of lime and a shovel with aquarium fish

thats the logic i use BJ   laughed in the face of danger and bought home the 2 ponds, 3000 ltr each im told  880cm x 2200cm heavy duty aqaponic style, now where to put them and what to put in them,  because the murray cod dont need them yet. fancy putting 1 in the middle of my fish room but have a lot of work to do first.  I have never used sump filters before but for the pond inside, and maybe some of my larger tanks im considering ibc's or sulo bin size sump if any of you people could post some links for that sort of thing i would realy appreciate it. thanks in advance,  cheers shayne

Sumps are good. They are more about efficient design than all out capacity... How bout a grow bed or two, go all out AP?
alternatively you could use pond filters. They are pretty cheap and dont take up much room.
