just found out this from a customer of mine in south oz....

they are an older couple with an interest in catfish... L-numbers in particular...

2 years ago they bought 5 x L260 fry from me and there was a staff stuff up somewhere and the box wasnt labelled live fish and they were stored in the freezer section as it was thought they were fish meat.... it was a transhipping job to melbourne then adelaide as there wasnt a direct flight....

so when they got their fish they were still alive but water was freezing cold... the following day 4 died and 1 ending up surviving....

i spoke to young guy at the desk on my next freight drop off about this and he checked on the computer and was the one who told me it was put into a freezer at melbourne before going to adelaide...  he then asked me for the value of the fish as he would run it by his boss... when i told him they were are $450 each he was surprised... i heard his boss in the background say no way tell him it didnt happen you made a mistake... got the wrong consignment number /order.... so i knew i wasnt going to win this... had to wear it....

generally speaking freighting is done on the buyers risk... but it didnt sit well with me so in 5 mths time when i had more fry i sent over 4 more fry to south oz and asked them to pay for freight and thats all....

now i spoke to regina/reg and asked how her 260 fry were going as they'd be big enough to breed now.... she told me she didnt have the heart to tell me they got stolen one day when they were out shopping about a year ago....

a very low act indeed... especially to steal off a couple old retirees.... thieves never found nor fish recovered... brings a tear to your eye hearing this sorta stuff...   :(

Work Hard For Your Money And Love Your Fish And Then Someone Decides They That There Monetary Situation Is More Desperate Then Your Own

I Really Struggle To Imagine How Someone Would Be So Brazen To Just Toddle Into Your House With A Fish Net And Some F****** Fish Bags Gets Some Water Fills The Bag And Steal Your Fish... What Are They Running Them Down The Street To Cash Converters?

This Is Simply Disgusting If I Ever Found Out About Someone Stealing My Fish Id Burn Down Your House

Stories like this are a big part of the reason I no longer allow visitors to my home or fishroom. I used to really enjoy showing off my fishroom and having a chat about fishkeeping, and met some great people. But nowadays, I meet you at the gate with your fish bagged up and my cattle dog growling behind me. Sign of the times unfortunately.

Cheers, Doug

The sad thing is regardless of if you have a dog or a fence when some low lives want something they will poison your dog and jump the fence to steal what you have worked hard to achieve.

That's why it's recommended a dog is trained to only eat what you give it directly.

Sad day when you can't share your setup with your customers. Guess you could go all 1984 on your fish? I'm sure they wont be upset to trade privacy for security.

I didn't know there were even fish theives out there.... They would have to gone to a lot of trouble to catch them etc...

Note to self: When I have award winning Discus, I won't show them off :)

The police would get a funny story.

Call up 000 and go 'Someone has broke into my house in diving gear and armed with a bucket and small net and they are trying to catch my rare catfish in my aquarium, please bring ambulance and the police.

aae (qantas freight now) only knew what the fish were worth after i told them... when you freight interstate you only put the recipients name and mobile number on the box for collection at the airport... so you could eliminate that possibility 99.9%.... plus it was about 6 mths after they got their replacement 260 fry....

just wish they had of said something straight away as its a small fish world and you have a good chance of finding out within first week after they got stolen......

video surveilance is the best thing... as you see who did it and then you have the upper hand and method of dealing with them...

Hence why Robert doesnt come on here hardly anymore. Sad thing is he is that nicer fellow he probably still lets who ever and their mates go round to buy fish....

I'd happily get someone sorted out. But he is to nice and doesn't point fingers...

i talk to robert all the time we live very close to each other...and yes he welcomes anyone to view his fish still even today...yes he is a very nice fellow..and he still pops on here every now and then just doesnt post any more.

he has video surveilance now...he is getting into another venture of the fish world...he is a distributer of fish food...all kinds of food for all kinds of fish.

its a sad thing these days.. my wife breeds birds and the same thing is going around perth atm, a few people have had their birds stolen... so now people have stopped showing their aviaries off and their birds, and its become a meet at the door/gate as was stated before.. The guy has been swiping birds, then cutting off the ID rings on the birds leg then reselling them..

At least in this situation they have got a pic of him and it has been passed on to everyone in the trade, i hope for his sake his doesnt knock on my door...

Only problem is I will not buy fish that are all ready bagged.

You meet some good and some shit people on here and life in general. You just have to be weary with whom you let into your house. I think I am a pretty good judge of character. These days if someone comes over I think is dodgy or might pose a risk they wont get any fish at all and be sent on their way...

this is true also.... lot of the high end priced fish dont usually end up at fishops as they cant always afford to buy them in the current economy... profit margins have been falling and putting a lot of shops under the pump..... some having to close the doors`too....
