Gday All

Im currently making my own LED light controller.

Is anyone able to tell me what fuctions the hi end lights have ?

So far each colour ( think i have about 4 or 5 different coloured leds in mind to use ) is individually dimmable to what ever brightness i need

I am going to have a sun set and sun rise - Can anyone tell me what the time frame is for these ? ie how long does it take to go from lights off to full brightness and full brightness to lights off ?

All settings will be set and viewed via a OLED screen so i think it should look pretty good as well

Anyway any suggestions will be much appreciated

Thanks

I have LED's. Mine seem to shut off fast on one and slower on ther other I think there is less power being drawn on the smaller one so after I hear the timer switche off, there is lag of about 3-4 secs.

Full brightness for mine is a about 10secs, I think it depends on the LED. I have to note that I have about 70watts of power and have realised I think I need to double it.

The fish are bright but they don't seem to soak up the light like when I had my fluro T5's.

Also I have been fighting algae growth (bright green) that apparently is being produced by my Super Bright LEDs' strips I think they are my 14k lights. So I am going to swap out those ones and add a couple more naturals.

Just do your research, my setup cost about $170 and I still need to get some more. Really instead I think I should have have spent $300 on a 'Grow' LED light from any of the LFS and then my tank would be much better supplied with lighting designed by a company that knows what they are doing (unlike myself).

I'm going to build a DIY led kit for my 6 fter.
I think I'll go with the one from aquastyleonline.com.
Each Chanel is individually dimmable( 4 Chanel's Max)
The sunrise setting fades in over 30 mins I think
It also has two on/ off Chanel's so you can run fans
Cheak out their site for some ideas

Great link Burnsy, thanks! I'm also looking for a good quality LED upgrade, preferably something with an auto timer with sunrise/sunset/moonlight etc. May I ask which configuration you're going with? I'm still trying to get my head around the best option for my 4ft planted tank.

Hi all. Just thought I'd get this thread going again if possible. How's everyone going with their LED projects?

I've just about decided on an LED array from RapidLED, and am considering an Arduino-based controller (eg. this one: https://www.facebook...uinoControllers) for automation. These controllers are cool because you can add extra components like temp sensors and pump on/off controllers, they're modular.

Just thought I'd see what others are doing before I take the plunge.

One question for now though... is there anywhere locally where you can heatsinks suitable for CREE or similar LEDs? Much of the freight cost of the DIY systems from the US are in the heatsinks.

I am now recanting this statement... Monoke, my LED setup is going really really well.

I am acutaully considering selling my main Sword as it is getting too big for the tank!! Basically it has now sent 6 'leaf' runners to the top of the tank and wants to stick some leave out the top of the tank.

It would be perfect for a large tank with an open top.

I am about to do a quick update on the tank so you can see how the plants are doing in that topic.
