I'd have said surinamensis also, mine look very similar to this and they were purchased as surinamensis also from Vebas.

Or people mislabelling to make more $$.
Seen it happen with hybrid stingrays, 3 way rays (being matilla motoro leopoldi mix) that look very leopoldi in colour and pattern sold as 50/50 or 75s even (leo x motoro only) which are significantly dearer.

look like Rio Branco to me but that is the problem with wholesalers and LFS that use trade names rather than correctly ID the fish
click here and learn a bit more, site is a bit dated but good info http://www.eartheate...x.php?page=main

In February last year I sold about 200 Rio Branco to a couple of local breeders, I'm pretty sure that I also put some in the auction around that time. These are probably from that batch, I had a colony of 9 large adults that produced several batches of 200 to 300 fry at a time, all were sold in Perth or used as feeders.
Cheers Terry

Would be interested to see what you ID mine as Terry, I purchased them as surinamensis from vebas a few months ago now. They don't look like Rio Branco to me but i'm no Geophagus sp expert.
