QUOTE (Peckoltia @ Sep 9 2012, 07:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
The flip side is. I walked into a store with my girlfriend about 2 weeks ago. This store used to be a PCS sponsor and used to be a lovely store. We walked in and saw 2 cockroaches in separate tanks, just floating around with the fish, and air pump that would make any heavy metal concert proud, cobwebs everywhere... you get the idea.

I think we went into the same store..
I went into a store last week and nearly chucked. The place is DISGUSTING!
Smells like dead mice, dead roaches EVERYWHERE, ALL tanks were very dirty, no care what so ever! I was bitterly disappointed considering it has new owners.

Very sad to see something go down hill so quickly. The store had been going down for sometime but within 10mths to go down so much was really disappointing sad.gif

Anyways, end rant..

I honestly believe the biggest issue with stores is rising costs, rent, power etc etc those bills are so extreme and when your not taking in decent coin it would make it very hard.
I'm glad to see Aquotix & Vebas have been able to stay. They were & will always be my fav stores. Both stores have awesome owners & staff. Their range of stock is always changing and is always at a very decent price.
When I get my tanks up & running again next year I will defiantly hitting up both stores.

Looks like we can expect another LFS to close then, unless it gets condemned first. If thats the way they keep there place of business clean, just imagine how they live at home.

i have copied and pasted the above comment - lets see what the new owners think of their employee bagging them out tongue.gif

and you dont have to work there - thats your choice tongue.gif

i dropped by today and there was stuff everywhere... having a big clean out... as the last fishroom manager had made such a mess of things... never cleaned anything... lazy!!!....

personally i cant believe he put dark substrate into a lot of tanks and made everything look so dull and dark...

yes az things definitely took a downward turn after you left tongue.gif its bottomed out.... but now it can only get better wink.gif

as everybody knows in business you need to invest to get returns....

The worst thing was the amount of quality tank busters that got put to the sword there, a lOt of them were my fish at some stage. How do you kill an adult lungfish? I would have thought you'd need a shovel. Was a case of I'd rather slowly watch these fish die then sell them to someone else.

A lot of things were done with a 'meh, she'll be right' attitude.
Not saying I did everything right but I gave it a bloody good go and at times it was very frustrating to hear 'it'll be right'
I tried to give it all I had for 5 yrs until I was questioned like I'd stolen something!!!

But anyways life goes on and I prefer my job now so I'll go back under my rock smile.gif

i actually quit in february. they asked me to stay on for one day a week to help out. im hoping the new owners will sort the place out. this remains to be seen.

yeah right, so they just left this mess you claim for seven months and just decided to clean it up today? sounds legit to everyone? not likely that the place got progressively worse over the past seven months with no staff members there to work? never let the truth get in the way of a good story right?

if putting white sand into tanks is making them darker, then perhaps you need to go and see an optometrist?

i was told the lungfish was getting on in years and died from old age..... any idea how old the lungfish really was ??? and what sort of age would you expect a lungfish to live to in tank captivity ???

i remember seeing it when gary still had the store....

Lungfish can live for 80+ years. Gary got it when it was a subadult. Was no more than 15 years old when it died.

Yep I was told it was approx 15 when it died.
I have been told that if they don't get their 'hibernation' period it can shorten their life dramatically,
But thats a discussion for another thread & IDK whether it's true or not.

I think its a little petty this tit for tat attitude i would imagine its agaist forum rules. Slaging a shop, considering i live in albany and, i know the shop you guys are talking about.

An as for Dark Sub straight i use Black gravel in my tanks an Getting black sand for my Marine Aquariums.

Yes sadly i've seen this happen far to often, people put in charge who lack the knowledge or are just lazy. The bottom line is that the fish are the losers, as everything usually ends up dead. This reflex badly on the shop and it to usually dies a thousand deaths as it's reputation is shot. rip.gif fishies.
