Hi Mike,
What about oxygen depletion? All those plants and no filters running for most of the day.... just a thought!

There might be something in that Nik...the discus were pretty large (although only the biggest one has survived, about 25 cm across I suppose).
Ive not had any experience keeping large fish in a very heavily planted tank....

Hi Mike

It is a possibility I suppose - are you running cannister filters on the tank - could be a case of bacteria die off & go toxic in the filter during power failure, then pumping all the muck back into the tank when the power returns ?

I know a couple of people who lost fish in similar situations.
