Hi all

Please advise on what's the best pellets for frontosa.
General feeding tips like live feed, amounts frequency etc.

They are messy eaters so advice here too.

What does spitting mean? They not hungry?

Just add stuff about what you've experienced in feeding these guys.
Do they require lots of protein?

I am new to fronts so need all the help u can give.

Thanks guys
Knasan

I use that New Era Green. I also used NLS Thera + A and the fronts smashed that. I must have been using too big a pellet size though, as the water got a really dirty look to it after feeding them that food.

I use sera flora flakes for my fronties they seem to really like that. Anything that is left over the bn seem to pick it up pretty quick as well.

Which is better between nls and sera flora flakes?
I thought its not good for fronties to eat flake due to sucking air.
I would like nls but not if it makes the water cloudy.

I have used both and I prefer the sera flora. When I first got my fronties I was worried about them "sucking air" but then I talked to the guy I bought my fry off he said he fed all his fronties (he had a lot) and never had a problem.

Hi Knasan,
I didn't mention the cloudy water to try and bag out NLS. I beleive that NLS is a good food. I just wanted to try the New Era after mattrox recommended it. I'm glad I did, because I'm very happy with it. It doesn't wake the water look messy. I've spoken about this to Waruna, and it's probably due to me using too big a pellet size at the time. Hope that helps.

Canning Vale isn't too far from where I live, so if you would like to try some, swing past and I can put a bit of the New Era red and the New Era green in separate snap lock bags for you to try

I feed mine Sera Flora and NLS. They seem to enjoy the Sera Flora more.

I done an experiment with NLS and new era. 4x2x2 Perspex divider in the middle one side fed 50/50 new era and flake the other 50/50 NLS Cichlid formula both sides using sponge filters after a month the NLS sponges were clogged where as the other side were clean.
Now don't get me wrong the fish love NLS and its a fantastic high quality food but I just use other foods a part of that decision being the maintenance factor.

Thanks for the guidance guys, much appreciated.
Jason, I will swing by sometime. Thanks for the offer.

I am currently using Hikari and they don't seem
too excited when the pellets go in. I cut feeding to see how they react when hungry
and still not too excited.

I have tried both Hikari gold (carnivorous) and the green veg pellets.
Same unexcited response.

Any advice on protein i.e. do they need a protein enriched diet?

Thanks

How new to fronts are you? How long have you had yours? When i first got mine it wouldnt eat any of the food i fed it. For around 2 weeks it ate nothing, not a single morsel of food. Was interested but kept spitting it out. Just needed time to adjust i guess, ended up fine eating anything i fed it. Same story with the 2 i have now

Feeding hikari sinking pellets.

Into fronties for about a year now. Their time in my tank range
from 1 month to a year.

All show the same disinterest in feeding except for the
2 Kipilis. The Kipilis do go after the pellets first.
