Skins as I already mentioned earlier in thread range between 15 to 25mm, and can be doubled up if need be.
It's likely though you will only be able to get enough to do part of the job,,, so you may have to buy some or most of it as well.

It can depend,, sometimes they have truckloads, and sometimes not much.
Only occasional ones will be seen at 40mm thick.
Best to buy and collect free in one go, and get it over with.
Your fish in that cold water must have dropped a lot of color and showing stress bars,,, and far away from breeding.

Hah ha,,, half a bank account to.

Yes, more initially

But it is a one off payment.

Mine cost $4k but took $300 off the power bill, so took 3 years to pay off.

Absolutely agree.
Some people though are limited to luxury, calling for alternate solutions that's similar with a budget.

I'm all about low power usage! Man it's stressful sometimes when big arse power bills roll in. So glad that's a thing of the past!

I was at my girlfriends parents house yesterday. Her mum was going through old bills/repayment receipts etc. one of the power bills read 11.2c per unit.....

It was a long time ago. Not sure of exact date. It is twice that ammount now.

Yeah get some poly mate. Might be a bit of stuffing round but you'll enjoy watching your fish more not having to worry about power consumption.

How many tank/liters are you running and is it all run off the same filter? If not I'd recommend it. Especially over these cold nights. Bigger volume of water=more stable.

I also have setup an auto water change I do daily in (smaller amounts) in this weather. Flick two valves, one releases water onto a garden bed and the other fills up in the pump tank and gets distributed through three pumps.

Even after water changes my temp doesn't drop below 27.

Ah ok then, Yeah I agree I will do it right and hopefully bot have to worry yeah they all run to the same filter now so that has helped a little but not a whole lot. Where did you get your poly from sam? what thickness are you using?

I was lucky enough to have a shed that was already insulated mate. From what I can see in the roof it's two sheets at 20mm each. So 40 thickness. Can't see inside wall cavities. But I am assuming the same was used.

I jut walked out of the shed after an hour and the cold hits you like a brick wall. Even when it is 14 degrees outside!

Yeah that's awesome. Well that's a good sign making me lean more towards the polystyrene.

Would placing insulation batts underneath the air cell work?

It all works man. But obviously as you read the posts in this thread, poly is the second best option. Unless you wanna pay the big bucks and fork out for cool room panels.

I use air cell over an IBC to keep the heat from coming off the top of the water and I also use to to block a doorway to the second room in my shed. But everything else, walls and roof are poly.
