Greetings all,
I've only just joined, but have been in the hobby for a while; on and off, when career dictates. I was originally based in Brisi, then Townsville, but am now settled in Perth.
Pisciculture interests are mainly catfishes (callichthids and loricariids) as well as oddball species (including challenging cichlids).
I am currently restricted to 2 tanks (90X60X60 cm community/display and one 60x30X30 rearing/breeding tank) but am planning to expand significantly soon...
Species/projects currently under way:
Sturisoma aureum: (1F, 2M and a bunch of juves)- my current project (simplified rearing of fry) is taking up from where I left off almost a decade ago … last spawn still over 50% of spawn alive @ almost 1 month since free swimming … fingers still crossed.
Dianema urostriata: group of 10 (4M and 4F ... and then some) – my next breeding challenge!
Ancistrus (peppermints): 4 – at least 1 pair in there when last I saw them …
Pterophyllum altum: trio of juveniles growing out... one of the reasons for addition of a big deep tank.
I'm also a bit of an aquatic plant nut in addition to enjoying the creativity of diy projects: filters, backgrounds and stands.
Anyway – I guess that will serve for and introduction an hope to be seeing more of the local pisciculture scene in the not to distant future.
Cheers E.

Welcome to the forums! Your tank looks very nice, with good healthy plant growth. What lights are you using?

Thanks.
Lights on the tank are 2X power-Glow, 2X Life-Glow, 1X Marine-Glow.
I use 'standardized' Aqualina Light hoods. Aqualinas are a tad longer than standard so after their silly tubes became difficult to get I made some 'adjustments' and they now take the more standard sized T5 tubes!

Welcome to the forum and welcome as a club member of the club!
It's a bit hard to tell from the pic, but do you have some sort of background inside the tank? Nice tank too

It's an old background I made over a year ago and its showing its age horribly. The chronic attention of numerous little sucker mouths have stripped off the backing which was mostly fine sand adhered to styro sheets using silicone.
There are a couple of neat background ideas on these forums that I will be looking into with the addition of more tanks.
Cheers E.

G'day Erich,
Welcome to The PCS. Nice looking tank and great fish. Some nice projects you have going there.
Care to share some info on "Sturisoma aureum:my current project (simplified rearing of fry)."
Many of us would appreciate hearing your ideas on this one. Tricky little buggers.
All the best
cheers

Hi Erich,
Would you minding telling me how you 'adjusted' your aqualina light? I can't really get a hold of aqualina tubes as well
Thank you in advance
Kind regards,
Steph

Sorry for the late reply.
I used a hacksaw to cut off one end.
The fittings are built into the ends. So if you remove one of the ends (add one screwdriver to tools list) you can cut off the gap distance, the diference between the lengths of the tubes. You will also need to cut off a similar portion of the internal reflector.
With the hood shorter, the end is screwed back on and the job is done.
Hope this helps.
E.
