Hey guys, had one of my biggest peppermint spawns to date hatch successfully  the other night, thought i would share a couple of pictures, not sure why they all congregate with one another in the corners of the breeding box, i would assume simply for safety. would have to assume there is at least 60 of the little guys around, too hard to count as they all sit on top of each other   :P. enjoy :)

some of them escaped from the breeding box buy are now stuck in another breeding net i have to keep my purple moscow guppies ( correct me if I'm wrong there Johnno ) from nipping at the fry, just another precaution really :)

Thinking about trying and doing a little peppermint juvie growth journal now i have a little more time on my hands :)

That is a top spawning effort, well done. I did them for years & always struggled with large batches getting fungus ( too many infertile eggs in the centre of the bunches infecting the rest). Really impressed.

Thanks mate, I did loose a few but I have started to make sure I have plenty of water movement now, to the point where I run an airstone in there as well as directing my internal filters flow over the eggs, I always used to worry about too much movement but have found that the more flow the better, within reason of course. as I have lost a few large spawns to fungus as well and credited it to lack of water movement.

Good job mate. I'm going to have a go at breeding peppermint bristlenoses myself.

Goodluck with raising the fry.

Well done mate! I'm assuming you removed the eggs from the parents then and hatched them in a separate area? What's the advantage of this then? I'm guessing to increase hatch rate?

Thanks guys :) yeah I tend to take any spawns from a particular male as I'm not sure whether he is sub dominant or what but whenever he has eggs I noticed he gets hassled a fair bit more and i would hate to lose the eggs to him eating them or kicking them resulting from stress, probably not fair on the father but he gets bullied too much as there are two other males in the tank that are the regular breeders of whom I just let the eggs following a natural course and hatch and grow in the tank :)

Nice work!
DO you find the Cherry shrimp work well? Have they ever attacked the fry?
Ive never kept shrimp with eggs/fry before, I might have to give it a bash once I get the racks up and going.

Another nice little spawn, the little clump of Eggs that hasn't hatched yet is part of another spawn that the male decided to kick this morning :P

Glad I took them down, was worried they would have to go as we are planning on moving and they are a bit Agro with my 134's. Luckily I can keep them! Hah
