Hey all,

Well I'm setting up my planted tank again and I was wondering what you guys would say is a minimum thickness of substrate for cryptocoryne wendtii and also if we can get Cryptocoryne Wendtii 'Tropica' in Perth.

Cheers

Crypts are my fave. I have said it before and I will say it again.

In my experience they can happily grow in anything upwards of a couple of centimetres, though if your substrate layer is thin I recommend a few rocks or pebbles around the stem to help them establish and stop the fish digging them up.

Thanks for the replies.

I am just asking because in my tank I have two areas of gravel, around the outside and in a rock boundary in the centre. The stuff around the outside is 4-6cm deep and in the middle it's 7cm deep. I think I might plant them on the border where it's 6cm deep.

I have crypts growing in 3-4cm of gravel, some in 2-3cm of sand but they seem to do best in deep gravel. Probably 10cm deep in the tank they are growing best in, don't know what type it is.nujy5yry.jpg4a2aga2u.jpg

Thanks mate! The wood is from Aquotix and the rocks I collected in Bridgetown, I'll keep you updated on my Aquascape Journal post
