Longest I keep cichlids is a couple of years. Had some Burundi Frontosa which I had from babies that I sold to John, who I think sold to renato, who I think is now selling.

Longest I have kept a fish is a blackmoore goldfish. Had him about 10 years until I took him to a local pet store when I decided to try planted tanks and riverine cichlids. Purchased him from Aquotix when they first opened, then traded him in about 2010? I have a soft spot for goldfish

Wow!!! They would've been worth a fortune back then. Currently doing a lot of research into tropheus for stocking a new 6x2x2. Want a tank full of em! It's a credit to u Paul. Any known current breeders with their descendants?

Hard to give an average as they just have not been kept as pets for a sufficient period of time ( particularly with modern knowledge & equipment) to establish an average. The first one i ever met was 45 yo. This applies to many long lived fish such as kissing gouramis ( some in tanks over 70) & to a degree koi which are suspected to live well in excess of 100. TFH magazine was running an article a few years ago to try to get an idea of fish expected lifespans.

I got to see flossy on Saturday for the first time. My daughter kept asking me to pick her up so she could say hi to the "big scary fish" in her words.... Ha ha cool fish
