I Dont think its fine to be kept in small containers just because they can be kept alive that way. Just because a person or a business wants to make a few bucks from an animal doesnt mean the animal shouldnt have a decent quality of life. As I said its cruelty and for what? Simple, for the sake of economics.
Geeze my little gobies have a 65ltr tank some say you can keep a pair in 20ltrs... you know who says that kind of thing? A*#eholes!
Yeah, yeah, I know, its time to take my happy pills.

At LFS they only stay in cups for a very short time, and like the betta's at Morley, they get daily 100% w/c. I don't like city farmers way of keeping them, as disease spreads through all their tiny containers as they are all part of a connected system, and they're betta's always look very unhealthy, unhappy and sick/dying.

So ok they get cramped up for a week in store which is crap for the poor ol fish and then...
I totally agree MM, the problem starts at the LFS though. They display them like that so the buyer believes they are ok to do the same.

I don't accept the conditions bettas are kept in at fish stores - they should be in at least a litre or two each so they can swim. Need to be sold into a minimum 20 litre tank! I hate those cups - even if they change the water daily, they can't swim and the temperature is not kept at the appropriate level. *angry face*
