is this a gold spot, and is there any way of sexing from this pic ?

They breed in dams, if they were common they would sell for $2 each like malawis!

Have seen the often sell for $100 at 20cm so 10cm $40-50 I reckon.

Breeding them in Perth is tricky because you need a decent sized mud bank and that's tricky in a heated pond.

Best chance is a nice big tank, say 6ft by 3ft by 3ft tall, and put a great big mound of mud all the way across one side.

But, if you're going to set up a tank like this, don't muck around with gold spots, rather breed Titanic plecos or something.

thats because in queensland where the weather is more accomodating for keeping plecos in dams, they are bred in huge numbers.... these large plecs have huge numbers of eggs too and in a dam environment they prob dont have any predators so survival rates are high...

price can be a bit all over the place with these bigger plecs... really cheap at 5cm... then they level out at around $100 mark 15-30cm..... and when they get really big they become cheaper again as the number of people that can house these monsters is much less...

but an individual can command $200 if its got awesome colouring and perfect finnage....

L273 from memory... can get to 30cm in length...
