I saw a mate on the weekend who was excited to tell me about the new fish tank he got for his son

Then I saw pics of the tank.... Blue Planet. "I got the fish from that Orange coloured Pet Shop"

City farmers have a policy of "3 mins per customer"....... How are you supposed to go through the info it takes for an aquarium customer in 3 mins???
Oh and pet city have 7 bar fronts, 2 for $50!! Bargain :)

Not all Pigs are equal... Sure the stores are the same but they are different. Ive had some very good CF experiences in some stores and crap in others... Actually I bought something the other day from CF and got the 3rd degree about tank, water, growth, aggression, blah, blah. Perfect info and questions for a beginner.

Pet City have some cool stuff from time to time... I dont mind PC or CF.

I do feel sorry for the beginners that have to pay stupid prices though... Not cool.

I got my black headed python for a fair price from a city farmers, and some of the dry good prices are quite competitive - none the less, I only buy fish and fish stuff from the above sponsors B)

I assume you guys know that City Farmers have been taken over by the Pet Barn (orange and black) chain, which is owned by Green Cross Vets.

Here in SE QLD they have rebadged and/or reconfigured all the City Farmers stores to the Pet Barn model, reducing significantly the number of holding tanks instore and the range of fish stocked, and restricting them to buying their fish only from AI in Melbourne.

They have also been taking over large numbers of existing privately owned pet shops and rebadging and reconfiguring them. On the Gold Coast alone in the last few months we have lost two longstanding shops that made an effort to stock a wide range of fish.

I personally believe this huge corporation is a real and growing threat to the diversity of the fishkeeping hobby in Australia and I refuse to support them by spending any of my money with them.

Yes. Now when you see a line trough the price at CF it means it wont be stocked anymore after all have been sold.As you can see in the second picture.

Also all the big display tanks are shutting down. A friend picked up almost all cichlids from one tank for about $1000.

Totally agree with you, I have never spent any money at a "Supermarket" Store, But until people start thinking along the same line, Nothing will change.
Very sad for the awesome aquarium store down the road we all like to go to..

Ive been saying the same thing for years.
