Hi guys

I just upgraded to a 6x2x2. Total of 8 fronts (15-20cm).
There are about 8 other cichlids. All juvies.

There is one bubble diffuser (2 balls) running at the right rear corner.

Is this sufficient to generate oxygen in the water?

Thanks
Knasan

You should attatch a Venturi to the return piping of the canister that it gives great aeration without having to use an air pump.

Is the current air bubbles being generated ok?
Or do I consider another airs tone?

Bowdy, I like the Venturi idea but want to keep the spray bars.

Thanks

If you are committed to the spray bar
1. Put it at or above the water line to create the surface agitation. It is this rather than actual bubbles that oxygenates the water.
2. Venturi would probably still work with spray bar below water line, just not as effective as single water return.

Tbh spray bars are of no practical use on a tank of your size IMO.
But if your stuck on it you can get Venturi attachments for spray bars also.

spray bar is ok to me... as long as its above water line and cranking it provides plenty of surface agitation....

The amount of bubbles in the water has nothing to do with keeping it oxygenated.. It's breaking of surface tension that will allow the water to be oxygenated. As Johnno said putting the spray bar above the water surface or having it break the water surface will give you sufficient oxygen levels.. This depends on the amount of fish you have of course smile.gif

Great advice guys. I have placed the spray bar at water surface level.
The water agitation is really effective. The fronties are now much more active smile.gif

Thanks
Knasan
