I’ve drained tanks onto back lawn for last couple of years during water change. Today was into a bucket for a small tank. I think I might get longer tubing so it goes into sink rather than bucket.

On the plus side, my floor looks clean after mopping it dry.....

It’s been quiet on the aquarium front with all the house painting going on.

Large tank is still about the same.

Got carried away and picked up yellow phantom tetras for the other tank plus some baby bristlenose catfish. Quite nice, small fish that seem to have settled well and busy keeping each other in line.

Finally adjusted ph probe last night and running over night the fish are still alive bwahaha.

Calibrated new ph pen and it looks like the ph probe reads 0.2 or so under.

Then it went downhill - put probe in glass of ph 4 calibration solution but when I lifted up probe meter it must of pulled the probe out of glass.

Result was glass of water down tank backing and probe fell 2 metres sigh. Amazingly the probe didn’t smash and then I put a wooden spoon between tank backing and glass to let it dry with no watermarks.

Fiddled with ph probe cutout and seems better. Will check tonight.

I need to rescape plants by height but for the moment..

Left the Anubias too long out of water last change (big sigh). The leaves curled and hoped it would come back but just looks bad now. Oh well - give it a trim.

Pruned 15 or so bad leaves off the Anubias in main tank and changed the base around on shrimp tank so it no longer leans over (fingers crossed!).

The driftwood finally (finally) arrived so I added that to shrimp tank as well. Pretty tempted to get a betta (and put shrimp elsewhere) but I know that would be more work and trying to cut back :)

Couple of photos. Put some Anubias in one of the other tanks to see how it goes.

Sigh - so both Tunz CO2 diffusers had the tube pop off the powerhead last week. Solved with a ‘temporary’ rubber band to hold it all together. Got back home last night about 8pm from work and one of the blockheads has one of the rubber bands hanging out of his mouth. Promptly vanished in the weeds (er, planted tank). So this weekend will be trying to track him down to retrieve it. Plastic plants, plastic fish - life would be simpler :)

Been awhile since last post picked up some ambulia to try growing at back of tank. Pruned the Java fern to stop it taking over and hard to see but the room has been painted (just enough space for roller on pole). Gave up on the idea of a undersea feature wall behind tank until rest of rooms done.

Ph pen was 6.68 and ph probe was 6.63 so happy there (and fish happy). New nitrates test kit barely registered so will add more ferts and see if working. Ditched a bunch of kits that expired in 2018

Looks good man!

Is that a tunze CO2 reactor I see? Are they worth it?

They are :) one either tank side now to distribute CO2 better.

I like the idea of keeping seperate compared to in-line on canister return (also less chance of hose leaks for me) but do find them fiddly. About once every month and a half, one of them will play up after a tank clean (too much gas buildup stops impeller restarting or tube pops off - held with rubber bands still). Still running though after say 4 years.

This is for another thread but is the shrimp tank led light taped off to control light intensity. Mostly taped off now but still quite bright with light around edges / through tape lighting tank fine. Java fern growing as well as (sadly) brown algae near eg filter inlet which is hard to wipe off and some green spot algae making a determined run. Originally taped just blue LEDs but had to tape more. Example of algae control with light duration, spectrum and intensity.

Few tank shots. The Java fern has been pruned back. The bolbitis fern has melted yet again on high micro ferts, liquid carbon or possibly just the flipping dog next door barking. Does ok in low tech tank but has never liked this setup. Annoying as it does well for 3 months and no algae then something upsets it. Runners have spread over most of tank so I’ll keep it and maybe do low tech discus one day....

What about some hygrophilla pinnafitada in there instead of the bolbitis?

Gosh, I wish fish tanks were easier to transport. Just looking at a nice deal of an 8ft tank with plumbed 7ft tank sump tank under stand. Just need a teleporter thingy...

Sadly the order got canceled (sob). Probably for the best in this heat I guess but geez, a little disappointed.
