#365888 Some Pics Of My Tanks

Posted by jakefoster on 17 May 2018 - 02:56 PM

so got the new tank up and running. not for what i intended it for tho, its become a breeding tank for my acara pair. its a little small for them but they seem happy been able to raise their fry without having to defend them from any predators for once. which always ended in no fry left. plan to move them back to the other tank soon and grow out the fry in this tank. feel bad to take them away from their fry tho! so leaving it a little longer.

once the fry get big enough ill add an eheim pickup filter. air driven sponges are great but create very little flow and dont suck up much debris (poop) so forever vacumning the tank. which is hard when u have to try not to suck up any fry!

gone for a more ’natural’ look in the small tank with the use of some leaf litter6a40bb22cbf9fb5b0da62a5ea5cbb799.jpgalso added 8 sparkling gouramis. these guys are really cool, but really hard to get a picture of52d9b4140a119cb2d89c36a182e61104.jpgd2249ff5ebde71670c67105c7efdc41b.jpgc89efe9b5a51a78ec41eabf1da9344bb.jpg

I used to feed my plecs and shrimp all sorts of crap, they love broccoli & cauliflower (blanched), eggplant, mushrooms, peas, carrots, capsicum, even mango. All very readily accepted and eaten :)

thanks i might try a few of those! i have done deshelled peas and they love that.

Geez, loving that! Anything that can’t be fed to them??

not too sure what u cant feed them, i just know what u can haha. pretty sure u should avoid anything acidic. i tried apple once and they didnt want a bar of it. they love pumpkin, cucumber, zuchinni and watermelon. lettuces and brussel sprouts are also good.

and the new project. scored a free tank! 750x30x35 (30”x12”x14”)9f8a5dab38f86a9c789274cc506e7831.jpgpainted the rear wall an off white and the floor grey. this tanks going to be sleek, bare bottom with a single feature piece of driftwood. my L168 and L270 will be moving in and a couple more L numbers when i can get my hands on em. possibly my apisto too, and ill try get a female for him. and a school of something, some im considering are cardials, rummys, emperor tetra, cherry barbs... or maybe even a group of gbr’s or neon blue rams.
filtration will be an eheim pickup 200 internal filter that i bought today, and possibly a smaller wave maker if that isnt enough to circulate all the pleco poop back around to the filter.
the following pic is taken from a girl i follow on instagram, and its kinda my inspiration behind this tank, clean and sleek and showcases the fish and their colours48ef2b00fc79c10869bf70edcff1c2d3.jpg

i've also since learned they share the same scientific name. i think at the time i was researching the blue acara on one website and the electric blue on another, one of which hadnt updated the name which led me to beleive they had different names!
well hood if they turn out nice and u do decide u'd like one for a display fish i'll deliver and u can pay me in chillies! haha.
quite an impressive selection u have grown!
