#98102 Tank Ideas
Posted by *S*T*A*R*S* on 22 July 2008 - 02:35 PM in Cichlid Discussion
imo i think for the fry substrate and minimal rock work so that they grow up with out having to hide every time you come near...
i think it can affect how your tank looks further on down the track. im no expert but if the fry grew up hiding all the time wouldnt they hide as adults?
im 99% sure all the spiecies that you mentioned will be fine together as long as you dont qoverstock it too much.
i have all in the same tank (5')
~ labidiochromis caeruleus x12
~ labidiochromis freibergi x2
~ cynotalapia afra 'cobwe' x1
~ pseudotropheus sp. 'long pelvic' x 2
~ pseudotropheus sp. 'salousi' x2
~ dimmidiochromis commpreciceps x2 ( only small at the moment)
~ melanochromis lepidiadaptes x3 (hoping to breed SOON)
~ pseudotropheus kingsizei x3
~ pseudotropheus red top hongi x5
~ Common bristlenose x2
= 34 fish... probly a lil over crowded but they dont seem too mind!!!!!
finaly kyle you get a mbuna tank!!!!!!! they rock
thats my imput, anyone else??.???

Posted by *S*T*A*R*S* on 22 July 2008 - 12:18 PM in Tank Busters, Exotics, Large Predators and Oddballs
nice effort there jonny..
twist mate i might be getting 3 or 4 but still not a 100% (about 95%)
let me know and gett them all sdhipped at the same time maybe?
i have a small thick plastic pool just over 4m in diamiter and 3/4 m high that i am thinking of changing to a cichlid pool.
had a thought that i might buy some keep a male and female and try to breed them.... would be the most waesome thing to spawn!!!
just out of interest do you have sufficient room for when they get older twist??
ive heard (and seen (video)) that they can get to almost 2.5 feet?? magnificant

Hey Jack!
the pics taken on the melenochromis were from a olympus C-750
but i usually use my nikon D-70 with a $1200 700 macro zoom...
takes extremely nice photos.
the olympus isn't the best but it had to do for these ones....
check my other thread... there are photos for my nikon (better camera)

#96804 Green Or Red Terror
Posted by *S*T*A*R*S* on 09 July 2008 - 09:57 PM in Tank Busters, Exotics, Large Predators and Oddballs
Thanks for all the advice so far...
BTW, are clown loaches compatible with the Terrors? What about silver dollars?
some people like one and not the other.
i like americans, dont get me wrong they are great fish and i have kept and breed a few
but i prefer malawi... its not a bad thing to prefer one over the other..
for example (and not looking for a debate) i think holdens are better than fords. but like both... but then Lancer would beat them both! hahah lol
anyhow i would like to know how your tank goes and maybe some pics down the track!
Cheers

red devils, convicts will breed like rabbits ???
i like the american cichlids (malawi is SOO much better)

#96085 A Different Expirience!!!
Posted by *S*T*A*R*S* on 02 July 2008 - 10:12 AM in Cichlid Discussion
i recently purchased some new additions to my malawi 5'er:
~Pseudotropheus sp. long pelvic (2 of)
~Pseudotropheus kingsizei (3 of)
~Labidiochromis freibergi (2 of)
and
~Cynotalapia Sp. afra Cobwe
All beautiful fish...
the Afra took my interest imediately because of its colouring at such a small size, he is just under 4.5 cm(ish)...
The day after putting him in the tank, i noticed him dancing with alot of the other dominant fish in my tank. it was facinating to watch him go head to head with my dominant Electric yellow ( about 8 cm) nearlly twice his size and win!!! he also had a run in with the red emporess male but he wasnt worried and just moved on.. his colours were fantastic and now he owns just under 1/5 of the end of my 5' malawi tank!! it was awesome to watch
i am going to post some pics tonight so you all can see the colours that i am talking about!!!
ps. thanks for the fish Az!!!
Cheers

#95371 South West Carpet Python :d
Posted by *S*T*A*R*S* on 25 June 2008 - 10:15 AM in Off The Wall
hey all,
I used to keep 2 stimsons, a darling carpet and a south west carpet python!!
stimi's were quite small one was 72cm and the othe about 90cm...
darling carpet was magnificant with his goldy green tapestry markings
south west i didnt keep for lon as he was 1.6m long and couldnt house him. but he was kindly donated to a friend of mine who holds a cat. 5 and keeps a death adder in an enclosure in his room... not a big fan
i just like the ones that cant kill you right!! but to each his own
all snakes were wild caught (lol) with suficent licences, mind you, and unfortunately i dont keep them any more!!
thats it for mee
