Hi all,
Thinking of moving this colony on. They were originally imported from (Doug) Dfishkeeper over east. He has some of the best quality fish around. Plenty of posts on eastern cichlid sites regarding his quality of fish.
These are breeding regularly (have fry to prove), and still a young colony so plenty of breeding still left. Currently have mouthfuls.
Send me a PM if interested.
Cheers,
Spiesie

#344649 Brine Shrimp Eggs

I have purchased several different brands from different shops.
I have definitely found that those which has been on the shelf a long time hatch rate is not very good. The last batch I bought was from AoA, and the hatch rate was significantly better that the others I have tried in the past. I did only buy a small packet, not the bigger containers. Maybe the smaller packets turnover is more than the containers?? Which then result in higher hatch rate?
Anyway, just my little experience.

#338858 Sought After Tropheus?
Posted by Spiesie on 12 May 2015 - 03:51 PM
Hi all,
Other than the Malawi specie I am after (In another post), I am also looking at getting Tropheus in the next 6-12 months.
I will be looking at getting some really nice quality stock (either German or F1) (I try to with all my fish). Not brave enough for WC at this stage.
So, this then leads to my question...Which specie of Tropheus is quite readily sought after?
The reason is that I would like to breed these and not have to struggle to sell them. Not looking at making money...just don't want to sit with plenty of fry of some rare specie no one has heard of.
Cheers,
Spiesie

#338834 Malawi Cichlid - Male And Female Both Colorful
Posted by Spiesie on 12 May 2015 - 11:10 AM
Hi all,
I am looking for my next cichlid. But I would like one specie where the males and the females are both colorful. Doesn't have to be the same color.
The usual candidates which I am not interested in:
- Electric Yellows (Already have plenty nice ones)
- Melanochromis species (Had them in the past)
- Metriaclima species (Already have some)
- Demasoni
- Pseudotropheus Acei
I am looking for a fish with a size between 10-20cm maybe bigger if it is peaceful, maybe something like Mdoka White Lips (but I know these are pretty rare, but would love them if someone is willing to part with theirs, I have the money )
Looking for something that doesn't take 4 years to mature, 6-18months is fine. The tank they are going in is a 6x2x2, but not looking for something aggressive.
Cheers,
Spiesie
PS - Sorry for sounding fussy!

#338594 May Meeting- Autumn Auction
Posted by Spiesie on 06 May 2015 - 11:27 AM
Was my first Auction. Seems like the attendance was pretty good.
There was so many bargains. And then there was crazy prices for guppy's!! I didn't realize people would pay so much for them, must be really rare?? I think 2 pairs of one specie went for $90!
Anyways, was good fun, Roast beef rolls was a winner

#337988 Id On This Cichlid ?
Posted by Spiesie on 23 April 2015 - 03:46 PM
my guess a tropheus, if it is one i believe they are best kept in schools
Hi Dori, I believe it is rather a Peacock cichlid. I think the angle of the photo can be a bit tricky in seeing the full body shape.
I looks like a Aulonocara stuartgranti (Usisya) or maybe even Aulonocara steveni Hongi Island Tanzania? But this would just be a guess as I am not too familiar with all the different Peacocks and there are so many hybrids around as well which is not helping.
Where did you source this cichlid from?
Cheers,
Spiesie
