Hi,

For some time i have been looking into the idea of holding future auctions and potentially other events to a Saturday night rather than the mid week meetings we have been doing in the past.

I have been in contact with several other clubs australia wide which already hold all of their meetings on a Saturday and the feedback was that we would grow exponentially in the future.

I believe myself and the feedback we have had not only off the forums but also as recently as the Agm is that members want more social functions held throughout the year, and we can achieve this through changing for starters to auction to a weekend rather than do a midweek one where the majority of people either have to go to work/school the next day which makes everything a rush on the night as people want to go home at a reasonable hour on the week days. Another idea i have put forward to the committee is we could also do on a Saturday a pre-auction sausage sizzle which will give the members a chance to come earlier for a bite to eat and catch up with everyone and have a chat before the main event starts. There is the potential to experiment with other social oriented events in the near future as well.

One of the main reasons this kind of thing gets held back is the fear of change, a long time ago ( before my time on the club ) this was trialed and flopped as members didnt turn up on the Saturday but the club i think is completely different now and much larger also.
So what i really need to hear is what you as the members and the forum members feel about this idea, please bear in mind that this is only one Saturday per month !

1. Do you feel that a change to a Saturday night would make you come if you dont come normally ?

2. Do you forum members feel that this would make you want to come to future auctions/meetings if it was on a weekend ?

3. Do you feel more social events would be welcomed on a Saturday from time to time ?

If you feel this is good idea then please get behind this with as much support as you can, or if not please tell us why.

Dazza could you please make a poll for this !

Cheers
Craig

Craig i think its a great idea to hold CLUB events on a Saturday, i think it would be better for the people coming from Mandurah and northern suburbs, i would come to more events/meetings too, i have to get up at 5:30am every morning but im sure there is people that start earlier than me

Cheers Mike

Hi Craig,

Saturday would be more accomodating to me, based on work/study schedules during the week. But it should be noted that it would eat into my DIY day for the week around the house, and I would think this would be the same for other members who work Mon-Fri.

You mention one Saturday per month, does this mean that the agenda is to have around 12 of these per year?
If so does the proposal mean that we would be replacing Tuesday night with a Saturday get together?

Hi Craig,

I am all for a weekend event. I find the weekday events, including meetings quite difficult. I would be willing to give a up a few hours of my weekend for the club.

I'm all for saturday night events. I can never ever get to tuesday night meetings anymore, except when I'm willing to incur the wrath of the managers at work sad.gif

A lot of people may work the saturday also (like me) so saturday night is definitely a better option smile.gif Plus then you can go home and play with all your new goodies without worrying about sleeping in!

I'm all for sat's

What about advertising the event more, get public involved, stuff should go for higher prices, more of an incentive for people to sell aswell.

Hi Matt,

Bigger crowds and more advertising i would hope would increase selling prices too due to extra competition to win lots !

The sat auction we be a great idea as well as other social events that can be arranged for Saturdays.
Personally i would still like to see the Tues night meetings continue on Tuesday nights as i would not be able to make most Saturdays due to the missus working.

I added a poll. Personally I feel that auctions and special/social events would be better on weekends, particularly sunday afternoons. I think a lot of people like myself use the saturday to get to all the shops and get stuff done you can't do during the week. Then sunday is my day off.

But for either weekend option we will have more time and won't be rushed like tuesdays. Normal meetings can stay on tuesdays as they usually don't take long.
Let us know what you think, thanks Craig for getting it started smile.gif

might have to choose a different location - more parking and more room inside if there will be more people....

Go saturday arvo with a sausage sizzle to start with.

I would also be happy with saturday evening... If we are near a pub the socialising can happy there after the auction! biggrin.gif

I would be happy with the weekend for any special event, it was a shame people had to rush off after Heiko and Spencer, I'm sure many would have liked to stay and chat. Including the speakers themselves!

Hmmmm, there is a Pub no more than 800m up the road from the existing meeting/Auction Site. I can just see it. Spend a some cash on fish, go to the Pub for a few then take home your newly dead fish to fertilize the garden.
