call Angeliek Peters who is a "fair work inspector" for the fair work ombudsman. you girlfriend would defiantly have a case for unfair dismissal. Alot of companies think they can get away with this kind of thing because no one ever takes any action, dont want to rock the boat etc etc..... which is stupid because its within your rights.

Any casual employee can terminate or be terminated on 1 hours notice, however if she can prove that long term she has had a regular ongoing roster and the company has made he role more full time in aspect then the FWO may decide that in fact she was engaged in a way that should constitute Full time or Part time if this is deemed then she is entitled to payment in lieu of notice, any holiday pay that normally would be accrued and if she has been their longer than 6 months possibly a component of wages for a set period.
I deal with these issues on a regular basis for employers and employees. Good luck in finding a new role.
