Just wondering if anyone on here has an idea as to what I should start with to fix my 2008 td 3.0l diesel. Was driving it and the engine just shut down. First time I changed out the fuel filter and put in a bottle of injector cleaner. Went fine for two weeks then same thing but worse. Doesn't drive far at all before the engine stalls now.

I have cleaned a few sensors, engine light went off, went for a test drive and broke down within 5km.
It's only done about 153000km, I have had it for a year but I'm not very nice to my vehicles.

Getting a diagnostics check tomorrow arvo to pin point the issue. Though it would be best if I can fix it this arvo.

Engine seems to run fine and it starts right up after it stops most times.

Got me stuffed. Any thoughts or opinions appreciated. Cheers

Some kind of blockage? Fuel Tank might have a blockage, when the car sits without being used fuel is able to slowly trickle past, but under load it can't suck enough, so it konks out?

I know that some times fuel stations can sell bad fuel - Basically you get the dregs of the fuel at the bottom of the tank, which 'gammies' up everything.

Fuel Pump issue?

I hope it's not the pump that's expensive, I guess there must be filter in the tank before the other filter maybe that's blocked. I'm hoping dirty injectors because you just throw them out and buy new ones. I might drain my tank, take it out and see if I can clean it. I reckon your right about it being a fuel problem. Dirty injectors can cause pressure to build up I believe and this would shut down the engine.

Cheers mate. I'll let you know what the diagnostic test tomorrow proclaims.

my 80 series turbo diesel was stalling at like every light and stopping when it turned i almost took it to a mechanic but i looked at the cord that the throttle pulls and it was loose as so i tightned it and now it runs sweet

No I haven't mate but it idles fine, only stalls while I'm moving, sometimes cuts out at over 100km. No power assist brakes or steering once the engine is off. Not real fun.

Although I will give the ranger some credit after the thrashing I have been giving it, something had to happen sooner or later but to be honest I was expecting a roll over or a tree not this crap.

Could be the badge on the front. ..

sounds like a fuel problem but the only other think I can think is a faulty temp sensor. If reading way too high it might shut off the engine. Also not a mechanic just panel beater.

Ahh yes could be a temp sensor as it drives fine for a little way then cuts out once it's warmed up a bit. Not reading hot on the temp gauge though, it never goes over half.

Turns out lube mobile are cheapest for diagnostic test $94. Not too bad. The two mechanics based closest two me were $100 + $40 call out, and the other knobhead wanted me to get my car towed to his shop, only 10mins away haha.

It's a common problem with Nissan 3.0l model when you over spool turbo it goes in to fail safe. My friends does the exact same thing when he goes up any steep hill and he revs it harder than it likes. Turn car off and away you go again, I think there is a fix for it, apart from modifying driving habit's have a look on Nissan forums. If a Nissan that is, I am not up to speed on motor configurations in 4wds

Could be fuel pump solenoid - electrical fault?

When it stalls, can you re-start it straight away without at problems?

Bloody lube mobile mechanic rang me and said he couldn't make it today, didn't realize how far away chidlow was. He did tell me it may be the crank positioning sensor so I might change that tomorrow if it's not too expensive.
