Hey all,

Well at the moment I have some south and Central Americans and catfish in my 300L tank. However, I am wanting to change to Tropheus and have a few questions regarding them.

1. What's the best food for tropheus? I have heard you need to feed them a 100% vegetable diet. Would a high quality vegetable pellet and peas + spinach be good?

2. How many would you recommend for a tank this size? I am thinking of either orange Bemba or illangi.

3. What sort of tank decor do they like the best?

4. To breed them would I need to remove all of them excluding the breeding pair.

Any recommendations and suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

1- Sera flora flakes or any good quality veggie based foods :)

2- 10-15 to start I'd recommend

3- limestone/rocks with lots of hiding places :)

4- no, they can breed with multiple partners, not just pair up :)

Keep the water pristine! & use a nice sand substrate :)

High oxygenation too bro, most moorii T's live in the surge zone and like Matty said love the rocks.. I feed mine NLS and give em algae covered rocks to graze on. I find little feeds more regularly to be a better option for feeding as they have quite long digestive tracts. Around 15 fish seems to spread the agro pretty easily and apart from that there's not much too it! Mine are breeding like flies!!

all good advice, moori have a tendancy to be very boisterous and can get aggressive so you have to be careful, but this is why you keep tropheus in large groups, in that tank personally i wouldnt have less then 15-20, lots of flow and keep the tank with some algae in it to encourage them to graze on the algae, algae will primarily be their main source of food as it is in nature, mine will only eat plants when there is no food or algae in the tank. i keep mine grazing if i can, so i do slightly smaller feeds to avoid chances of bloat and always have meds on hand for tropheus :) not really a beginners fish but with some care and attention these fish are one of the best africans you can buy hands down!
