This is includes both north, Central and south American Cichlids.    :)

Simply take your photo, upload it to your photo hosting website and submit it (Via PM) to me or any other committee member.

Your photo will then be posted on a separate thread (Within 2 days) which will be locked from discussion until voting is closed.

Also, entries can now be submitted by email to the following address Photocomp@Perthcichlid.com.au

Just let me know via PM you have submitted  your photo via email.

You will automatically earn points towards the grand prize just by entering.

Remember:

  • Relatively unedited e.g. (Minor Adjustments OK (white balance/ sharpen) , but heavily edited for example removing blemishes and stripes on a fish are subject to disqualification)
  • Photos will be displayed to a max 1024 pixels wide, photos with a resolution above this will be resized to 1024. (Photobucket and IMG codes Will resize automatically)

NB: The use of a photo-hosting website like Photobucket makes uploading and submission of your photos much easier.

Or you can attach it to me in a PM (This will use up your forum upload allowance)

This is not fair. How are average people like me with 5mp cameraphones supposed to compete with pros with Cannon 5DM3s?

This competition has been same method for a long time, only comparing high-res bokeh pictures. How about some quiz, debates, contribution or videos?

A expensive camera doesn't guarantee a good photo. My hit rate of good photos were at 80% with a low cost 3MP camera when I first started out. My current gear costs about 6x more yet my hit rate has dropped to 50%. Comps have been won with pics from phone cameras too, good composition and an interesting subject is usually all u need.

Keen to hear more suggestions on increasing member participation, maybe through a topic up in Off The Wall.

So your question is : Why should people who invest time, money and passion have more advantage over someone who only wants to take snaps with a phone?

I think the question answers itself.

Would you like to explain how you've seen my entry for this months comp even though they haven't been posted yet?

Is there something going on behind the scenes we should know about?

The planted tank comp winner was taken with my iPhone. As Daz  said, all you need is a good subject.

It's not really a photography competition, it's more a "cool picture of a cool fish" comp.

I meant that my photo for this month is alright, but then again it could be really bad from compareing to your previous photos which were absolutely stunning!
Oooo was that a little insight Ronny? You have a really good photo for this month's photo comp? ;)

LOL!  Complains about the photo comp and how it's run.

Doesn't even take the time to read the comp rules :welldone:

Speaking of photo comp, are the entries going to be posted before the voting starts?

I suspect with new years and all, the comp will probably more delayed than usual.
