Eheim 2217 Rattling

I have tried:
- tilting making sure there are no air bubbles
- taken the filter apart and cleaned the impeller etc
- made sure there are no kinks in the hoses
- made sure the taps are fully open
- Made sure the media and plastic parts are positioned correctly
- left it running for an hour and still noise
I have had an aqua one cf-1200 for this tank and it's so quiet so I hope that I can fix this as I have heard good things of eheim
Thanks
Any help greatly appreciated

Did you try gently shaking it while it is running to ensure all air is out of it?

Not sure it's the best solution, but sometimes I'll turn it on & off a few times to force out trapped air.

And turned it in and off to be sure as well

Clean it or at least the hoses.
Check the ring magnet in the impeller is not cracked or chipped. Same with impeller housing. Could be hairline crack.
Also may not be correct impeller.

check the rubber gromets where the impeller shaft pushes into...they might be worn or not there at all...should be one in the motor and one in the locking cap on top....i have lost one before and the pump rattled.

if its not in the centre, then i woluld say your missing the little rubber cap from the end of the impeller shaft

Once I put the plastic part on top I think it moves to the center

I am yet to buy an eheim but I suggest shining a light into the impeller holster and seeing if there is anything preventing the rubber cap from sitting straight.
Good luck

sounds like if it is not centred by the arbor, it may be too small. Should be too snug in there to be anywhere else but centre.

Hello DavidK,
I had the same issue with my 2217.
If you look at your impeller you might notice that there is a gap between the magnet and the white cap, this can cause it to rattle, the magnet should not be able to move (up and down).
All you need to do is replace the Impeller and your problems should be all fixed.
Regards,
Leif.
