For sale are 5 Tropheus breeding colonies including fry and juveniles.
Variants are: Ilangi, Kasanga Red Rainbow, Chimba, Ikola, Duboisi.
If someone wants some tanks and equipment to go with the fish they can be bought as well.
Tanks etc will not be considered for sale separately until the fish are sold.
I have given a valuation on what I see as a reasonable normal selling price.
I have given my sale price which has been made low in order to facilitate a fast sale and takes into account a discount for the quantity of fish being sold. I am not interested in splitting the adult colonies, they have taken many years to get to this stage. If you want to split a colony after the sale between several buyers that is your business.
Needless to say this is a very rare opportunity. Prices are cheap. All fish must go. As you may know I am also moving house sometime late Feb or March so there is an added incentive for sales before then.
Duboisi. 42 adults. Prolific breeding colony. Possible 3 bloodlines, but at least 2. Age 2 – 3.5 years.
Duboisi fry and juveniles: numbers always changing but currently 146 between 1cm – 4.5cm. Several females holding.
Total Duboisi: 188.- all sold -
Ikola: 33 Adults. Around 2 years old. 3 bloodlines including German bred.
Ikola fry and juveniles: numbers always changing but currently 64 between 1cm – 3cm. Several females holding.
Total Ikola: 97. - all sold -
Chimba: 17 Adults, about 2½ years old, 5 juveniles, 11 at 3-4cm plus 9 fry. Only known adult Chimbas in Perth.
Total Chimba: 42. Valuation: $2130. Sell $1400ono
Kasanga Red Rainbow: 21 Adults, about 3 years old, 2 about 14 months. 36 at 1-3.5cm. 2 females holding.
Total Kasanga 59: - all sold -
Ilangi: 32 Adults, 18mths-3 years old. 16 at 1-3.5cm. Most of the Ilangi adults are German bred. 2 females holding.
Total Ilangi 48:. - all sold -
Tanks: for sale with fish otherwise not for sale until fish are sold.
- sold -Two 6’x2’x2’ on 4-legged stand
- sold -Two 5’x2’x2’ on 4-legged stand
6’x2’x2’ over 4’x2’x2’ on 6-legged stand
- sold -4’x2’x2’ over 4’x2’x18” with stand
Two 6’x14”x18” on 6-legged stand
- sold -Two 2½’x2’x18” with stand
- sold -4’x14”x20” over 4’x18”x14” (divided into 4 tanks) with stand
- sold -Two 2’x10”x12” with stand
All tanks except the 2x10x12 and 4x18x14(4 bays), which have sponge filters, come with Eheim canister filters, lights, heaters. Breeding tanks also have internal Otto filters, others have Atman and Eheims internals. Most tanks have excellent access to bottom tanks. All stands are metal. There will be an awesome collection of limestone ‘holey’ rock available.
Probably what I will do is work out a price for each pair of tanks and their stand, and then the buyer can select filters, lights, heaters, rocks etc according to their needs. Make no mistake - prices will be cheap.
My Tropheus website will be maintained – I still have a few more articles to add.

well they are advertised as breeding colonies and there are fry included so what do you reckon?
there are no females holding atm in the Chimba colony.
if it was me I would move them into the 6x2x2 - they seem to like the length better. They were breeding better for me in a 6x14x18 (adults only) than in the 4x2x2 (all of them). But I also think the other fry/juv's in there might have slowed them down a bit. I would also try the aragonite substrate as I have heard it shows off the reds better, but I have bare tanks atm because I dont like cleaning substrate.
sometimes a move to a new tank starts a spawning frenzy sometimes it doesnt.
I have only sold Chimba fry a few times and they went for $50ea. so lets see 11 at sale size now, grow up the other 9 fry = 20*$50 = $1,000 and you get 17 adults and 5 juvs for $400. Even if you sold the fry for $35ea (which you shouldnt) that makes the adults $650.
cant believe someone hasnt done the sums on this yet!
photos of the tanks are on my website.
