That classifieds ad may have been an intentional bum steer
In all seriousness though, I haven't decided on my blank canvas yet. I know that I'll get more points if I start earlier, but I don't want to rush it. I'll have something before October. I'll definitely be doing something different to what I did last time.

Yeah I agree about the brichardi, it's cool watching a colony work together as a family.
Chocky that tank looks like it will be getting some quality gear put in to it. Are you putting a background on the tank?

yeah i figured since I'll be downsizing a lot of my fish stuff i can concentrate and spend a bit more on this one. Also hence I've been slowly buying the stuff rather than a lot at once lol
I've thought about the background but hoping that once i have enough plants and driftwood etc , i won't need a background.

a little bit!Looking good. Are you not worried about the ADA spiking ammonia though?
I'll see how it goes in the morning. if it's bad ill add in an extra seeded sponge filter...

I might do the sacrificial goldfish cycle for my tank, as I can't be stuffed going fish less.
I do have a naughty fish bashing a couple of blue Rams, so I might subject it to the nitrogen cycle as punishment.....
Oh and chocky, make sure you are 100% certain on the background before setting it up
I think tanks with no background look poo, but that's just my opinion

ok so i couldnt wait til morning and i did a test.Looking good. Are you not worried about the ADA spiking ammonia though?
and yep you were right! massive ammonia spike.
i added 2 big sponge filters and gonna do a water change. sigh.. should be my bed time lol
you have other tanks right? just grab some seeded filter media from there?Use the ammonia spike to your advantage, Fishless cycle

goldfish are pretty hardy and can usually survive a cycle. lol

Yeah I plan to squeeze a dirty seeded sponge in to that tank.
Goldfish are hardy, but how do they go on a higher ph?

They're fine up to pH8.5 as long as its stable.
though ideally they like around pH7.4-8.0
i plan to chuck one of my ryukins in there if i get a snail problem. lol

Thanks mate. Yeah I was suprised how good they looked. I went through a couple of boxes of those pisces aquarium rocks with Chris @ Aquotix, and they looked different to the picture on the box. He also got a small sample of the "sahara gold" sand and put it in a cup to see what it looked like under light, and compared against the rocks. Then we put the rocks against the crushed coral, and the crushed coral looked more natural (or less artificial). Now if only I could find some snail shells that look like the Neothauma Tanganyicense snail shells, I'd be laughing. I got in contact with a lady in Kingsley that sells shells (Australian Seashells) but a pack of 12 shells is $30 plus postage. Not sure if I want to spend that much considering how many shells I want to get, as well as still having to buy a few things before filing this tank.

Yeah the spendings add up fast. Particularly if you start spending on the little things too.
I had a bit of a look at artificial rocks but couldnt find anything that would cut the mustard (stupid saying but im using it).
I reckon ive got about $200 to spend on mine yet... thats more than I originally planned to spend on the whole thing. Spent nearly $500 already. Only spent about $50 on last years comp.
I have been looking at the Pisces stuff on line but I would hate it if it turned up not as good as I expected so going to have to do a LFS crawl.
