I have two in a tank with eco complete substrate. I'm planning to swap to sand. Pretty sure one of them is suffering this at the moment.I hope it will pass the gravel.

It deals with prehistoric stuff like gars and birchirs.
Else monsterfishkeeper forum usually has some good discussion/information there
Birchir's are the best to watch to feed because they don't vaccum up all the food in one big gulp.
Watching it snap at a passing goldfish (sometimes takes a long time) - priceless. Prawns probably the best + whitebait.
Easily sourced and always readily available and cheap.
1kg prawns - $20 max
1kg massivore or carnivore - $100+! But the pellets are probably more nutritionally balanced and it's always better to feed a variety.
I spend my money on fish not cameras <== +1

AQUALOG Polypterus by Frank Schafer has some beautiful pictures of different types of bichirs (you just need to find the one with some english translation)
it mainly has info on size under different pictures but has a tiny bit of info on the in general
@terry - not all of us can get our hands on these lil guys so we just have to stick to pictures T^T!
