They are also bigger than what they where when I first saw them , so this would indicate that they are a larger spp, as compared to the robbianus, they only grow to 17cm and they are now only half the size of the unknown Syno.

Other than pointing out to you that you are showing your age as well as a good memory, are you able to elaborate on what you said?

It's not even close to a featherfin, look at the dorsal fin.
I had about a dozen of these fish in the early 80's all of them got to about 7'' each time they turn up lots of names get put forward. We will probably never find out what they are unless somebody does a scientific study on all the Synodontis species.
I suspect that they are from West Africa and would do better in river conditions rather than Rift lake set ups.

I only know two cats - common BN and cuckoos and not even those too well.
Cats aren't my thing thus my poor guess.

It seems to originate from Brazil, reaches 150mm or 6" in length
The following is a link to Planet catfish where i have discovered this. It says it can reach 10"....
The markings on it are a little more defined on this fish, totally not a synodontis tho' but the name is Jaguar catfish.
Take a look at the 2 in the dish....
Anyway have a look peoples and tell us what you think

However the eyes on those cats seem to far forward. I originally found this catfish and quickly disregarded the ID as I felt the markings and location of the eyes makes it an implausible match IMO.
