Ok sorted it out just had to set the flash to manual 8O

still can only use the zoom lense in manual mode but thats ok biggrin.gif

Snowy this thing kiks butt compared to any thing else i have had i thought the cannon was good (No manual foucas though  ) but the Nikon makes it look like a box brownie 8O

will post some pics tomorow not up to your standard Mate but very happy biggrin.gif

Ps Nikon have a deal on the D80 $200 cash back 8O so it was a very good deal still more expencive than Ebay but we already spoke about that biggrin.gif

onya mate my cannon was a Power shot S2is nice cam good video function but not a SLR 8O

So not much control 8O exelent point and shoot but crap at foucising through glass(and no manual foucas well not thats user frendly anyway)

But like i said not in the same ballpark as a SLR thats why i Wanted to change biggrin.gif

The reason i went for the Nikon was i had the old lenses from anouther camrea i had and it just so happend that Snowy sent me in the right direction biggrin.gif For which i am very gratefull biggrin.gif

So cannon Vrs Nikon with the same level of cam maybe not much in it think maybe would come down to persanol choice biggrin.gif

I will say that the NiKon 501 that i bought many many years ago never missed a beat if it were dig i would still be using it now biggrin.gif
And that would be the main reason for buying a new nikon biggrin.gif along with Snowys Expert Advice biggrin.gif

I did buy an olympas before the Nikon and after about a year it went pear shaped 8O

Cant rember the model but you could prob find it in some museam 8O

Hi Iamsam, with photo equipment it's a matter of the more you spend, the better it gets. And the lens plays a more important role in the quality of your photos than the camera body.
So for $1000 there's not much you can get in terms of DSLR. A good macro lens like the Tamron 90mm will set you back around $600 - and that's on the affordable side of things. The Nikon 105mm macro (or micro as Nikon calls it) costs twice that much.

If you want to start off in photography, get yourself a good starter kit like the Nikon D40 or Canon 400D and then later on add lenses to suit your interests.

An alternative in your case may be a compact digital camera, most of those can do macro shots as well.

Hi Cawdor biggrin.gif

Would you agrea that ext tubes are a easy way into macro biggrin.gif

For about $20you can get a set of 3 diff sizes 8O

have to say i love them biggrin.gif

Ok so maybe you have to go totaly manual biggrin.gif

but that Said it helps to learn how every thing works biggrin.gif

Then down the track when you have saved your penneys you can go the expencive lense biggrin.gif

I get what you are saying and you are 100% correct biggrin.gif

But there are some cheap ways to go (if more diff to use Ie ext tubes biggrin.gif )

Then when you decide you like it SPEND BIG TIME 8O

Extension tubes are an alternative to a dedicated macro lens, I agree. For someone looking to experiment with the hobby it would certainly be a cheaper option. That being said, it would still be hard to get a decent kit for 1k if going down the DSLR path I think.

Maybe buying a second hand kit would be cheaper, there'll be lots of cheap Canon 300D/400D and Nikon D70/D80/D40 kits hitting the market now that the new models are being released smile.gif

This thread and the quality of photos has pursuaded me to get some lenses for my Canon S3 IS. With any luck I can create some pictures of the same quality as these Nikon Cameras.

Let the battle begin!

Daniel
