Sorry Anka. Scrap that haha. I don't have a great knowledge of L numbers. Only kept a L333. He was cool.

L168 require pH <6.5 (apparently) and I am slowly raising mine to 7.5.

Do you know if they are likely to eat my prawns/shrimp and plants?

Im sure the PH was a little above desirable now reading up on them a little more.
He lived happily with a couple of blockhead, calvas and others I can't remember the name of. I'm sure some Ls would be fine at your PH.
A girl from aquarium city Maylands "up the road from my house" has him now and he has doubled in size apparently

Your tank looks very good, i assume this is your first planted tank so well done mate.
However i agree with Craig, break it down a little.. Have a clear fore/mid ground sections. With proper care those swords will get massive!! When i bought mine i was assured that these aren't going to grow any bigger than 40cm, but in about three months they reached 75cm+. With AS you really need to plan a head, if you try to move around plants when roots are established it will make a huge mess.
I have two books of Amanos, you can borrow them Consider on a gravel or a carpet plant, AS is very messy/muddy. All that mud will cover your matrix and may suffocate your bacteria colony.. Someone else could confirm/reject this idea perhaps? I personally think Matrix is the bomb, and i'd pay extra for it Without gravel or a carpet plant i struggled to get the water movement/surface agitation i wanted, which is very very important to me.
Do you run Co2 24/7?
My suggestion is to forget about adding more fish for the time being.. Get the plants going well first. Learn from my mistakes, it is hard i know i was very impatient. Then again mistakes are a good way to learn from, i remember those much clearly!
What is the PH of your tap water? And why are you raising it?

Thanks for the kind words.
I know, I was very impatient and am now experiencing difficulties as a result of rushing into it. Having a lot of algae problems I spent $40 on a algae identifying/treatment book but turns out it was for Marine... *sigh*
I have Amano's collected works
I've tried growing glosso but it's died everytime (spent about $100 trying to grow it )
CO2 is pH controlled and most likely turns off at night by itself.
I've read, and heard from rainbowfish enthuisasts, that the PNG species that I am keeping prefer a higher pH and harder water. After exams I plan on working hard at finding an equilibrium.
Water comes out the taps at around 7.6 (see link: http://www.perthcich...x...t&id=15450)
I look forward to your visit next week - hopefully you can make some recommendations? It's hard to photograph algae :-\
Cheers for all your help.
