Feral Fish

I currently have 4 people interested in helping out with some ponds in excess of 35,000lts and the support of some local business's. In regards to werdnas point about killing them I'm all for it, if it's a definate threat. Smaller goldfish and the like can be re homed if need be, I don't see the point of killing fish if they can be enjoyed by a responsible fish keeper. I can only assume the majority of people using this forum are responsible fish keepers and wouldn't release them into a local waterway
And computerlog I would love to get involved with the project it sounds like a worthy cause. Many years ago I worked with CALM on a canning river re vegetation project trying to remove noxious weeds to enable native plant growth, a huge task, with mixed results. I'm keen to help out any way I can

I'd been keen to participate in a revegetation project or similar. Ive also got room in my ponds to temporarily hold fish if required.
Just a thought, can the PCS endorse a project where a site is cleaned up, rehabilated and restocked ?
Cheers

I'm meeting with the swan river trust on Wednesday to discuss more about feral fish, should be interesting to see what they currently have in place

Myself and Ice went out on a recon mission a few nights ago to see which areas are worst effected. Pretty much every spot we went to had koi/carp, gambusia and goldfish, there was even one area that was so prolific with yabbies it was incredible!! The difference in some of theses ponds was amazing with a couple basically being scum ponds filled with algal blooms, rubbish and mosquitos. At this pond there were quite a few fish dying or dead, not surprising seeing the water conditions.... Im thinking of starting a log on the forum here so we, as a club, can locate problem areas and hopefully build a list of these areas with the aim being getting info to SRT, Fisheries and local councils any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated

We caught a big goldfish in the canning last week while fishing for bream. Considered chucking it out as bait for a mulloway.

There will be a Feral Fish Log thread shortly, it would be great if you could put your sighting in there Alex
