Hey Everyone,

I thought i'd post up a 'journal' of setting up the new tank. biggrin.gif

Information:

Tank - 18x10x12" (35L/9G)

Filtration - Jebo 501 Hang on Filter

Co2 - Nutrafin Natural system

Lighting - 2x 36W tubes, aqua sun compact reflector

Substrate - Laterite, Garnet sand, Red sea Flora base, 2-3mm brown gravel: in that order.

Heater - Vitapet 50W heater

Ferts - Seachem Flourish liquid and seachem flourish root tabs

Flora - Glosso, pearl grass, rotala, anubias, swords and java fern. Still
thinking about what plants i will use...

Fish - Most likely some neons and maybe a pair of rams.

Im wondering if i should go for driftwood or rocks, please give me your opinions smile.gif

I think thats pretty much everything biggrin.gif
Im still waiting on most of the stuff to arrive from ASA over the easter break, so i will post up stacks more photos then.

Heres The pics so far... The tank has some water marks that dont want to come off sad.gif but when the water is in the tank, you can barely see them smile.gif

Close up of the laterite (bottom) and Garnet sand (top)

Front view. The little black things are the flourish tabs for root growth or something lol.

Sorry about my crappy photography skills!

looking fantastic Craig (giving me some idea's with all those spare tanks I have out the back aswell lol)

I would say go with driftwood over rocks, but then again, rocks look good aswell so it is a mind boggle, flip a coin as I always say lol

Look forward to some more pics biggrin.gif

P.S. You photography skills are better then mine! laugh.gif

Giday Craig,

Good to see your headed into the world of plants biggrin.gif .. Going in full steam too by the looks, good stuff... I've a couple of books I can highly recommend you, answered a lot of questions for me.

Try

Encyclopedia of Aquarium plants by Peter Hiscock

and...

The simple guide to planted aquariums by Terry Anne Barber & Rhonda Wilson

Available from Amazon, you can get them second hand through there pretty cheap too, or order them through one of the website sponsors if they have them or can get them..If your a member, perhaps the club has some books? I'm not sure.

Plus here are a couple plant links full of great info and well worth a read, one of them has a great plant catalogue, the other has some great links coming from it.

I look forward to seeing your tank progress... Good luck

Mike.

Hey everyone,
I managed to find one of these hydor co2 systems ---> www.hydor.it/index_en.htm
for a dirt cheap price, and the co2 bottle has only been used for 3 weeks!
So im very excited about that lol, but the downside is that ive found a crack in the tank sad.gif which means ive gotta buy a new one, which isnt to bad i guess lol.
Ill post some more updates next Monday or Tuesday when the gear arrives!

Hey everyone,

sorry about the big wait for pics.
The tank is still a bit cloudy so i doesnt look too good.
The lights that came iwth the unit are very 'blue', and i ight look into getting some 'yellower' ones.
Thanks alot for plant donations from Graeme and Mike!
The tank and plants all look pretty crappy at the moment, but im hoping it should grow into place and the hair grass grow up a bit, the glosso cover the substrate and to get the pearl grass and other plants to create a nice thick 'background.'
Please give your suggestions and comments biggrin.gif

Hey guys,

Time for an update! biggrin.gif
Ive been busy in the tank today, i just wasnt happy with the look of the hairgrass in the corner, so i took most of it out and left the best looking bits in there smile.gif

My order from aquaria arrived too. Hmm, the plants wer'nt in the best condition, especially the glosso which had turned brown and gross. The riccia i got is attached to a rock, and the anubias was way to big for my tank, but i attached it to a rock and put it in a bucket. The stem plants are ok i guess smile.gif

The reason their are so many plants at the back of the tank is because im going to grow them all for a few weeks, and when they have established ill pick my favourite two of them, and ditch the rest. If anyone can help me with identifying the plants, please do smile.gif Ive got a bad memory already and im only 13 lol biggrin.gif

Im still not happy with the light cover lol, i want more yellow!

I have'nt noticed much growth in the plants yet, its probrably because im getting impatient and want to the plants to grow...INSTANTLY biggrin.gif

Im only dosing flourish, excel and flourish root tabs. Should i be dosing more?

Here's some pics.

Please leave your comments and suggestions of the tank smile.gif

Thanks,

Craig

Looking great 8)

Some small stones at the base of the stem plants would look good and personally I'd leave all the stem plants in

Here is a pic of my attempt at a planted nano (16L) The water is murky because I had only just filled it with water

Hey everyone smile.gif

Thought it was time for an update.

I have changed quite a lot because i didnt like the look of it and it was driving me mad every time i looked at it lol.

I took out the pearl grass because it went all brown and crap.

I have seperated the stellatus and spread it around the back of the tank, which i think will look good when its finished growing smile.gif

The glosso has sent out heaps of runners which i am very happy about biggrin.gif

I had a bucket of wood soaking out the back that a friend bought me from a dried up swap down south. Lots of little plants started growing off the wood so i plated them in my tank biggrin.gif They grow like crazy!! about 1-2cm a day!! biggrin.gif

Most of the plants i get to pearl too, especially the riccia biggrin.gif:D:D

The glosso and the whole tank itself looks a hell of a lot better in person, i dont know why it looks so bad in the pics :S

Hope you like the pics smile.gif

ID please smile.gif
