I have quite a few spare tanks and just looking what reptile (lizard) I might keep. Are they expensive to keep like live crickets ect. or with power - do they need much cleaning up after them. Do Gecko's or Bearded dragons move much. Any suggestions on what would be interesting Lizard to keep. thanks Mal

lizards are fun - beardys move around more than geckos as geckos are nocturnal animals.
lizards need good uv and heat - other than that not too difficult to look after. snakes are much easier though

Just remember you need a license to keep reptiles.

Gecko's are cute little buggers but are really quite boring... hardly see them doing anything unless they are chasing crickets one or twice a day.
I have a couple of these guys: http://petmagic.com....ny-tailed-gecko

I have a pair of bobtails in my backyard.
Best pet ever!
They delivered themselves free, cost nothing to feed, seem to play well with my dog and scare the living crap out of door knockers

Hahah I can just imagine an annoying salesman coming up to your door, then seeing the bobbies and running away, startled within an inch of his life. Good pets, bobtails are. They adore fruits like banana and strawberry. I remember finding ones in bad shape at my grandparents and cousins houses and feeding them and taking out their ticks (always an incredible amount. ewww) and letting them on their way. The good old daysI have a pair of bobtails in my backyard.

I had 2 bobtails about 55 years ago - I was feeding one some snails when it took my thumb instead - it hung on for dear life and didn't want to let go. Gecko's and snakes don't look like they move much so will have do quite a bit of homework. I think there is a show in Cannington soon - would reptiles be for sale as well???. Would I get a Cat 3 licence with no experience. Do you have to say what you are going the keep when you apply for a licence or do you have to say what you ended up getting or if you get additional reptiles that come under the same category licence. thanks mal

malbone they reptile expo is this sunday - there will be animals for sale but your chances of getting your license before then is non-existant. cat 3 is pretty much just a matter of filling out the form and paying your money (assuming that DPAW haven't had any problems with you previously - its basically the entry level for most people)
you fill out an annual return sheet that tells them what animals you have bought sold and still have. its pretty painless

I will go to the expo to get a better idea about what is availible and what cat licence I would need plus feeding and heating requirements - haven't had a reptile since I was about 8 years old so no issues - I do have a dangerous snake relocation licence but no experience keeping anything - at this stage I'm only considering lizards but can be a bit tricky with getting the diet right from what I can gather.

good thinking man.
lizards, varied diet, and vitamin/mineral supplement is necessary for the animals well being. Also additional calcium powder supplementing is necessary.
Uv lighting for certain families of lizards, monitors and gex don't need but are said to do better with it, dragons most definitely necessary.
Id go snakes if you can though.
I got a dangerous carpet python you can remove from my collection if you like for a few hundred bucks

the only snake that has bitten me was a Carpet of one of my mates - I hardly felt it and a Budgie hurts a hell of a lot more - it escaped and he found it years later in the roof - it had been living on birds - what do you mean dangerous - that doesn't add up to me - thanks for the info re the cat 3 licence - are either / anyone going to the expo - I'll be the oldish guy in a bike jacket - I plan on getting their early.
