#340977 Drivers In The Right Hand Lane

Posted by werdna on 28 June 2015 - 10:15 AM

You forgot to mention the extreme emergency you were in that explained why losing 30 seconds out of your life was so important.

Otherwise why would you waste 10 times the amount of time lost stuck behind the car bitching on here?

People need to learn to calm down and ask themselves how they are truly affected by being slowed down by 5kph.

In the grand scheme of things, the high blood pressure and stress you cause yourself bitching and moaning about it is doing more damage than the inconsiderate driver.

How big a tank is it?

I had mine in an 8x2x2.

They had heaps of room to move and would watch you, so as soon as you walked to one side they would just swim to the other

#339841 Whats The Funniest Thing You Have Had Stolen?

Posted by werdna on 01 June 2015 - 09:45 AM

We had a client of ours break into the office after seeing where the money box was hidden.

They climbed a down pipe to jump the wall which only had about 400mm clearance from the verandah ceiling and ended up in an area about 1m by .5m and had to break through a window that was blocked by a full 4 draw filing cabinet.

After finally getting into the building they went straight to the cash tin, then ended up leaving it on top of the filing cabinet because it was almost impossible to climb out of the area they were stuck in.

I had that happen when I brought in 300 Murray Cod.

1/4 were upside down.

Instructions said to add air and add 25% water every 5 minutes for half an hour.

Only one was dead by next morning.

#339646 Recent Fishing

Werdna's Fishing Adventures.

So a few weeks ago my business partner (Nick) and mate (Bill) bought a boat, Haines Signature 623 with 200hp Suzi 4 stroke.

She's a beast, brought in from Melbourne.

We get it in and, as usual with a boat, there's quite a few things we don't like and need fixing.

This is a quiet time of year for us so we decided to spend a few weeks getting some things ticked off the to do list.

I love my electrics, so that was my job.

So for the last 2 weeks I have been replacing bus bars, running led strip lights, upgrading bow and deck lights, swapping nav lights to LED, installing fm stereo, running antennas, installing NMEA backbone & engine interface, repairing electric anchor the list goes on.

As an added bonus I had my wisdom teeth out on Friday, so I had a few days where I wasn't at work and had to take it easy.

This is our newly wired up deck with lights on 100% brightness (another story for a different day  :) )

There is a small leak on the fuel tank that has taken priority for repair, but we need to empty the 400L of fuel out first, so figured we would have to do so chasing some fish.

So Saturday arvo we took her out for a spin.

We still don't have many spots, so just drifted, marked a few reefs for another day, but mainly just covering ground.

We could see a few fish popping up just below mid level, so I started winding my line up slowly, next thing BANG

Gummy shark on the line.

Minutes later Nick's line bends over and he brings in a Sambo

Before you know it, fish were everywhere, I had to take a photo of the sounder to show one of the old boy whingers who reckons there aint no fish left out there (Yes I have cropped out the GPS!)

We are getting heaps of strikes from Sambos, good fun, but nothing nice to bring home when Nicks line bends over and (In the excitement we forgot to take the photo on the boat)

Monday morning we finished what we could. I  still have a few things to go but they need custom designing.

So figured we would burn some more fuel up.

Got out to 5FB, dropped lines, and before mine had hit the bottom Bill was on

Just as he gets it on the boat my line gets a small strike, and up comes a nice size KG

Sun was starting to set and we were happy with that, so headed back in.

Yesterday we get a phone call advising us that a mate has sorted out dry dock for us for 2 weeks so we can make some repairs to the trailer as well as get this fuel tank fixed, so unfortunately we had to get out again to use more fuel.

Left work at 2:30 and Cockburn Sound was like glass. Get past 5FB and we have a super slow drift with 2m rolling fat swell coming in.

We figured we would spend an hour or two drifting then pull in our pots and retire them till late Nov.

Nick and I went out with our junior, poor bugger forgot to take his Quell, he refused to make us come back in, but he spent the whole time with his head over the side.

No photos of us catching (You had to walk past the junior to get the phone and we were trying to keep our distance :) )

We had a school of Skippy under us so we kept 3 bigger ones, then decided that we should head back and get back on dry land for Junior. So last drift and Nicks line bends over again with another Dhu.

Calling quits on the fishing, we head over to our pots. We hadn't touched them for weeks, so were pretty surprised when we get 5 crays.

As soon as we get back on the ramp Junior decides he can't stand boats anymore and heads off, he didn't even want to take some Dhuie home with him, so we gave him 3 crays and of he went.

End result

Then today we decided to leave work again around 1:30. I was determined to get a good size Dhuie, I still hadn't caught a size one yet and was sick of watching everyone else get them!

My old man had thrown in a few bits from his shed towards the boat so Nick and I decided it was time to take him out. Bill couldn't get off work again so the 3 of us got in the water around 2:30.

Conditions weren't great, there was a good 16kt southerly and still some swell out.

We got out to a spot about 2 mile past 5FB we found the other day, but the drift was way too quick, so we figured we would anchor up just on the edge.

Not our preferred method for deep water, we like covering ground and hadn't brought out any berley.

In a few minutes we had some takes and Nick and I bring in a Skippy each.

We started getting a bit more activity with some just undersize Pinkys, when all of a sudden my line nearly gets ripped out may hands.

Winding in I would get about 3m of line, then it would start screaming off about 5m.

Every time the swell raised the boat the fish would feel the pull and dive for cover.

It was a good fight for a few minutes before it tired and came to the surface.

So there is my first size Dhuie, bang on 75cm caught on a 6/0 hook.

Still have over 1/3rd of a tank left, but we have enough fish to last us a while now, so we'll have to drain it I think.

We might try to head up to Coral Bay next month for a couple of days, we have some mates up there catching monsters.

More on my custom lighting system another time

if you have the time/good camera you can photograph vents and blow them up...

I can just picture a cop raiding the breeders house thinking they are growing drugs, seizing the computer, then trying to charge them for being a sick F$%& for getting off on close up pics of fish sex organs.

Have you tried turning the tank lights off and waiting for a couple of hours then scooping her out when she is asleep?

If you use a torch to find her they take about 2 minutes to wake up.

Have 2 nets, place one behind her, get the other in front and in her dazed, half asleep state, she normally backs right into the net.

She wont even realise she has been caught till she is out of the water.

Its the least stressful way to catch a fish IMO

#338301 Your Quick Response To This

Posted by werdna on 30 April 2015 - 07:39 PM

The issue has nothing to do with your opinion re death penalty.

Does the media complain this much whenever any convicted drug trafficker is killed somewhere in the world?

What makes these two any different by being Australian? They still broke a law in a foreign country and that country prosecutes as per their laws. Not ours.

The fact is that the Australian government has no right to tell the Indonesian government how their legal system should work.

Just like the Indonesian government has no right to tell us how the Australian legal system should operate.

The proper thing to do is make an official request through the UN, of which both countries are members.

Not act the way they have.
