I often Snorkel in the pools and rivers when I go camping and have even collected a few over the years for my tanks.
Including
Spangled Perch
Tiger Perch (cannot find any info on this Perch, I call it a Tiger Perch purely because it has Black Bars down it's side)
Eel Tail Catfish
Salmon Tail Catfish
Western Rainbowfish
A bottom dwelling goby type fish I havent Identified.
Mangrove Jack
Barramundi
Tarpon
And others I cant think of right now.
I was wondering if there are any laws associated with collecting wild fish?
I only collect for myself and I might take 1 or 2 fish in a blue moon.
I also want to photograph these fish, especially the Tiger Perch as I am unable to find any info, I've never seen a picture of it on any websites including the ANGFA site. I doubt it's a new species as our rivers up here are full of em.
Cheers

you sure are a lucky living up there.I am jealous.
You do have some interesting water ways to go dipping into.
One of my favourites was the shallow run ins at Millstream and also mairee( spelling??) pool.
As for the laws around collecting fish,i cant actually help you sorry.
I certainly caught plenty when i was last up there ,including in the national park ( didnt keep any ) and the ranger didnt mind at all.
There are guys on here with more experiance than me so hopefully they will give you some more information.

I'm not too sure about collecting fish, you may need to contact the Fisheries Department to see what they say. I recall in Queensland (I had some literature from a whole back) it's ok to collect fish, like rainbows, but anything else you need to abide by size and baglimits.
I'd love to see a pic of the"tiger perch"
BTW if we get ANGFA back up and running, with me involved we can't NOT rule out the possibility of collecting trips, I want some plants

I'm up for a Camping/Freshwater Diving Trip in about a month so I'll do my best to catch photograph and release as many of the above mentioned species.
And hopefully some of you can clear up some of the names for me!

Australia Air Express (Qantas Cargo) will not (knowingly) deliver livestock to your house, they have to be picked up. Best check with them first.

But I'm hoping to capture and photograph.
Spangled Perch
Tiger Perch
Western Rainbowfish.
The catfishes are Nocturnal so they will have to wait for a camping trip.
So....Fingers crossed that they're not to fast for me!

Some Wally (Me) forgot that Friday was a public holiday therefore could not fuel up his 4X4 to go out bush on that day!!!!!
He had also planned different things for the rest of the long weekend so he was pretty much screwed!
I will get out there someday, when I do I'll start a completely different thread regarding the fish I photographed, hows that!
Cheers for hanging in there, I know your excited Blakey and I will try my hardest to get a free day to go adventuring.
