@Jules honestly not really... they all like to swim around where they’re least seen haha.
So I had something REALLY interesting last night. I’ve discussed this with the manager / owner of Ausyfish who supply Australias Coal Grunters as I wasn’t too sure if it was possible, but it is, just rarely seen.
At 2am my Coal Grunter decided to let me know he was actually a she, and produced heaps of suspected eggs, which flew everywhere throughout the water column. At first I suspected seeds however I don’t have any seed pods / stalks currently. Everything in the tank went crazy trying to eat every last one too.
Certainly cool to see, if that’s what happened.

Down in Capel over the weekend at my cousins property that sits right on the river. I’ve been down for a squizz. Found some sort of native carpet plant that I need to grab a bit of:
I’ve also caught a Tandanus bostocki. River is full of them apparently so I’m going to bring a few home. Going to be overrun with catfish soon.

Had some good fun exploring the Capel River early yesterday morning. Freezing cold water made for sore legs and feet but I found a few cool things.
Vallisneria sp (Gigantea?) or Triglochin. Everywhere throughout the river, in small groups about 15m apart.
Brought a sneaky bit home for the pond.
While I was trying to dig out a small bit I dug this guy up.
Also got to go checkout the carpetting plant I saw the day before - I took a little bit of this too. Suspected to be Callitriche stagnalis - Possible weed but not sure
Travelling further up the river I found a few more bunches of Val/Triglochin, some snags etc.
Then I came across this interesting rock face
There were a few moss types around. The smaller one didn’t look too promising but the liverwort / Pellia looking one looked like it could be. I’ve taken a few portions of that to test out.
The rock face was at the bottom of a hill - it was dripping with fresh water.
It was great to be able to checkout the river - I went home with a few different plants, a catfish and a happy face knowing the area’s healthy and full of life.

Cheers Ice
First we had the bedside tank...
Now we have the bed head moss collection!!
Mosses:
Capel Liverwort (Submerged, partially submerged and partially submerged on sand)
Cameroon Moss
Mixed Fissidens Bits - Mix of Sydney and Dietrichiae)
Fissidens Dietrichiae
Native Flame Moss
Native Carpet Moss
Native Bushy Moss (3 containers of that!)
Subwassertang
Here’s some photos of the mosses in the tank
Huge bunch of flame moss
Native carpet and bushy
The Dietrichiae, now attached to the wood
I’ve also been given a small piece of this - Mini native bolbitis (Hymenophyllum sp) absoloutely gorgeous little plant which has been really hard to grow, this bit is about a year old. Fingers crossed it does better for me.
Huge shoutout to my friend Brent that gave me the rest of his native moss collection and previously the huge portions. He’s an absoloute legend of a guy! If you’re ever picking up moss from a NOR Brent have a good chat with him, wealth of knowledge and all around great guy.
The kindness of people in this hobby amazes me and really brings a huge smile to my face.
Thanks to people like Brent and David (Ice!) I’m able to have some really cool mosses, plants and fish. I’m super thankful for that.
A big thankyou to you both and all the kind fishy people I’ve met through the hobby, you all make it a great hobby
