The next ANGFA WA meeting will be at the Rotary Club Hall, Sandgate St, South Perth, Tuesday 17th January, 2012, starting @ 8:00pm.

This month's meeting will be hosted by Dr Michael Young.

Michael will be giving a talk titled Colourful characters: Exploring the evolutionary biology of the Western rainbowfish (Melanotaenia australis)

Michael has done extensive fieldwork collecting australis and examining the difference in the colouration of each locality, as part of his doctoral research.

Michael will not only be showing us the locations he sampled and the fish collected, but will also present his findings regarding the marked variation displayed by Melanoataenia australis over it's extensive range.

Sounds like it's going to be an awesome meeting. I assume there will be a slideshow/ Powerpoint presentation to accompany the talk?

Don't know whether that is a good thing or not, but I will certainly be at the one after this smile.gif

Yep

We're quite lucky - Michael was actually a speaker at the ANGFA National Covention in Sydney, where he gave a similar talk.

I will be there for sure. It is great to see such quality speakers comming along. Even if you have never kept rainbows, information and presentataions such as this are great for anyone interested in any type of fish.
I would advice anyone who can to come along smile.gif

What a great meeting smile.gif very interesting and gave a great insight into many of the reasons fish are the colour and size they are. This type of talk could be usful to many of the cichlid keepers as well. If you didnt make it along to the Talk you missed a great one.
