I would assume alchohol (as in rubbing or meths not tequila). It should just evaporate off and leave it nice and clean, i would wash it probably before painting just in case though.

Are there fish in the tank and is it inside or outside though?

Brand new tank outside waiting to get painted. I was thinking to use some kind of alcohol. Might use the methylated spirits.

Thanks

Metho or Windex will do the trick. If you want the painted background to adhere for longer, then apply ESP to the clean surface, rub it off (as per instructions on the tin) and then paint. Use a roller for the paint:good .

White spirits will also do it though if the tanks are new I'd just wipe it over with a little windex. Remember not to use windex too close to existing tanks as it is almost all ammonia.

Thanks all, will go with the windex method (think we got some lying around).
