hey everyone, been sometime since ive posted anything major bout the tank and how its been but here goes anyways,
before i didnt have anything but now ive got quite sum stuff, not the best top notch as i was in a car crash a while ago and havent worked for 2 weeks but yer aniways when im back at work i shall get the goods smile.gif aniways

- hy-t5 lighting 24 inch
- aquar world protein skimmer, (not what im going to use later just for the time being)
- eheim 2010 internal filter
- sicce voyager stream pump "3" power head, new brand and cheaper then a vortech but also does an amazing job bought from vebas smile.gif
- resun submersible pump 2000 litres an hr

i also now have a hammer coral n there, doing good so far smile.gif

OH and im also going to be upgrading to a bigger tank, as mine seems to be to small, my power heads to powerfull for it, it moves my sand to much no matter where i put it, but bigger tank means more fun smile.gif thanks all heres some pictures so far of my 160lie tank

Please will, justify why you have the eheim internal filter for your reef tank. Are you using this as your basic biological filtration? Or mechanical? The 2010 is barely rated for 300L -- in practice this usually translates to about a 150-200L real life rating. If you are using this filter as your main filtration can you commit to cleaning it at least weekly to remove excess organic materials before they break down? Corals are not like throwing goldfish in a desktop tank and changing the water weekly.

IMHO bumb up your live rock and go more of a berlin system. Where is the anaerobic bacteria in your tank going to live? I'm going out on a limb here but judging by your earlier comments your last tank probably crashed because you put too many fish (2 Regal Tangs) in too fast causing ammonia/nitrite/nitrate spikes and killing your pets. If not set up and maintained very carefully, you may very well be setting yourself up for the same thing again by using inappropriate filtration. If you must use such a filter, google wet dry trickle filters and try that approach instead.

How many tubes have you got in that lighting fixture? Even if its 4 tubes that's only 96W and will be barely sufficient for corals.

My concern is for the living things you are keeping and will keep in your tank. I apologise if I offend you but I cannot just sit and watch; your tank post is there for public appraisal and criticism/comments, and these are my opinions, not words of some God of the Reef Tanks.

Whoops yeah my bad the 9 was there before the post edit smile.gif I've edited that about 20 times by now cos I really didn't wanna sound offensive. If the eheim isn't your main filter then why is it there? There is a real risk of a nitrate spike if and/or when you remove it from the system.

No I don't really understand; "now ive got quite sum stuff" is not an English phrase and has no meaning; I assume you are trying to say that you have found some of the items generally held to be required to keep fish in a marine tank. I am sorry that you're having rough times though. If I had any saltwater gear spare I would happily give it to you to help. If the immediate funds are an issue, why not let the tank better cycle before you add more to the tank? The extra time will only really do the tank good, and you can save your money for the better gear instead of buying cheap stuff at half the price then having it break on you and set you right back to the beginning.

I assume by tanks you mean the whole setup. A larger tank with the same light would be even worse for a reef. 2' cubes can be really nice when finished though smile.gif makes a good room centrepiece when viewed from many angles.

I hope you get at least some light duty work soon! Have a chat to Daz about becoming a club member it could save you quite a bit of money at the LFS and would be handy when setting up the new tank.

Check out http://www.masa.asn.au there is a plethora of information and years of experience on the forum. You have a very nice quarentine setup if your looking to go to a bigger setup eventually. As for the eheim take the foam out and run it with out it, it will cause more head aches than its worth. Your going in the right direction, i personally would add a bit more cured live rock.

Best bet is not to be adding any sort of corals or fish until you are able to, "get the goods."
