I'll be honest I think it's down to the bad reputation they have recieved, which is misleading. Calling them Malawi Eye-Biters and the fact people assume they are super agressive large fish.
Shame as they are beautiful fish and tank raised are not as agressive as people think.

As a member some time ago closed down by the name of Mattt and I got his line, dead straight and excellent shape with well protruded jaw lines.
When/if I start breeding again which is a fair while, that would be guessing 8-10 months then three months after that again.
But I'd say most shop supply's are coming from east now, so plenty over there,,, just request them as a extra resort if needed.
Also got the full blooded D.strigatus.

Havnt heard of the Albs elsewhere these days.
Could be the end maybe in Perth,,,, if my female never breeds again,, unless someone ships.
Many people have spoken of their sensitivities,, but it must be understood that albinos kept amongst standard fish will weeken and waiste away if they aren't picked to death first,,, laws of Mother Nature sometimes 'if it looks different then pick on it and kill it'.
I think it's timidness and issues people have keeping them regarding disease, is what makes them weak in the market,,, fish now have to be a all round popular favorite to stick around in years to come,,, it's either just a hand full of people staying in breeding for a very long time,,,,, or many, many people taking up fish and swap changing but always enough people in support of each species existence at any given time.
But it's always worth the search for that surprise hidden gold, that we thought had all, but gone.

Jas, I don't think the the albino are hybrids. There's an OB / marbled variant which I think are as their body shape is all out of whack.

And Mattia, the males were not as gold as females, but they were extremely yellowy limey green color.
Alb dimi comps are pure and just a standard outcome for albinoizm.
The marbled ones are crossed with female marble peacocks which gives the blunter nose that makes it start to look like a strigatus.
Nothing beats a chunky standard heathy standard form I reckon,,, stunning body shape to have in our hobby,,, so primitive and brutal looking....
