Hey guys n gals

Should I be worried about the mantis shrimp I've just found in my tank? I've been doing some research online but have conflicting stories... Any thoughts?

Cheers
Nick

Yeah bowdy just found one.... Kept hearing noises in the tank and thought I was going nuts until I saw him smashing into a little clam this morning, I might leave him for a bit and see what happens smile.gif

I was worried it might damage the glass?

what size tank have you got.

what glass thickness have you got years ago when a lfs use to find theses in there orders we use to watch them fight the ell they had, fun then but seems cruel now.

But i never ever witnessed them break any thing but have had lots of people say they have cracked the glass, i even witnessed a guy bring a tank in saying a shrimp had cracked it. it was 10mm glass but i saw theses things smash in to this shops tank and noise but no damage

Is it a clubber or a spearer.

Check out some of the videos on you tube, they are great to watch.

the biggest issue is you wont have much luck keeping many fish in the tank without them dissapearing suddenly

I've found the piece of live rock the mantis is hiding in and it's one on top of the stack thank god! Will it kill off any of my good bits of live stuff if I take it out and put it in fresh water to get the mantis out?

probably... you can take the rock out and squirt some fresh water into its cave to flush it out. (then put it in your sump for me lol)

you do realise your going up against one of the smarter animals that live in the ocean, dont you. Another interesting fact is they are the only organism that has trinocular vision.
